ANALYSIS: Albany presently has one of the below-average teams in college basketball. Their record this season is 14-18, and the club is ranked 285th overall (out of 353) in Haslametrics' most recent ratings. Of the nine schools in the America East (average ranking 251.0), they're currently ranked as our #6 team in the conference.
Offense is not the strong suit when it comes to Albany. The team is ranked 311th in offensive efficiency and scores fewer than 91 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Albany does a terrible job to take advantage of scoring chances off of offensive rebounds. Against AO, the team converts only 3.2% of all second-chance opportunities (337th nationally). Albany also tends to be very careless with the ball and allows far too many breakaway opportunities off of their own turnovers. The team's rating for potential breakaway points allowed off of steals vs. AO is 13.57, which ranks 330th in D1. Albany lastly happens to be one of the very worst in the game when it comes to maximizing the number of shot attempts they get off from the floor. The team is nationally ranked 329th in offensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of only 77.82 vs. AO.
Though they rate better on defense than they do on offense, Albany still isn't one of the more capable defensive teams in college hoops. Allowing roughly 102 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #240 in the nation in defensive efficiency. Albany does a pretty inadequate job to provide chances for themselves to score quickly off of steals. They're ranked #307 in potential points off of breakaway steals with a rating of only 8.45 vs. AO.
Albany has been playing some of their worst basketball of the season as of late, and they're presently ranked 331st in positive momentum because of it.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
Albany is typically better vs. teams that allow more chances at the line. Against foes that have a defensive free throw attempt rate vs. AO greater than 26.67, Albany performs above their norm 83% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 32% of the time.
When facing teams that convert well from outside the arc, Albany often performs worse than normal. Albany is more efficient than usual 23% of the time when facing teams that have an offensive three-point field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 33.09%. In their other contests, Albany performs better than the norm 72% of the time.
Albany does better vs. clubs that typically allow more than a fair share of breakaway opportunities. When playing squads that have a potential point rate allowed off steals vs. AO greater than 12.59, Albany performs above average 82% of the time. Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 35% of the time.
