ANALYSIS: Despite what their win percentage might indicate, Alabama is a good team that can cause more than enough trouble for most opponents. They have a record of 16-15 and are ranked 58th overall (out of 353) in the latest Haslametrics ratings. They are also ranked by this site as the #8 team (out of 14) in the SEC (average ranking 66.1).
Alabama has a reasonably potent offensive attack. Occupying the #39 slot in our offensive efficiency rankings and embracing one of the game's most blistering paces (the sixth-fastest in D1), they will score about 108 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Alabama lives and dies by the three-ball and will launch from long-distance early and often. The team ranks ninth in ratio of three-point attempts to total field goal attempts. If you do allow them to shoot from long, they have the ability to punish you for it, too. Ranked in the top-100 in three-point shooting percentage, they make approximately 35.0% of their three-point attempts vs. AO. Alabama also does a really good job to acquire opportunities from the free throw line. With a free throw attempt rate of 28.88 vs. AO, they are ranked 45th in the nation at getting to the charity stripe. Unfortunately, they don't convert a ton of their free throws and make just 68.2% of their attempts.
Alabama is also a fairly decent team on the defensive end of the court. The team ranks 116th nationally in defensive efficiency, allowing about 97 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Alabama has had some success this season preventing opponents from converting many of their overall field goal attempts. The team ranks #85 nationally in field goal percentage allowed, as AO only makes good on about 41.5% of their total attempts from the floor.
Alabama has recently performed below their norm from an efficiency standpoint. The team is currently ranked 312th in the country in positive momentum.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
When facing teams that tend to get off more shots, Alabama often performs better than normal. Alabama is more efficient than usual 73% of the time when facing teams that have an offensive field goal attempt rate vs. AO greater than 82.69. In their other contests, Alabama performs better than the norm 38% of the time.
Alabama does better vs. clubs that have trouble defending the mid-range shot. When playing squads that have a defensive mid-range field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 34.32%, Alabama performs above average 68% of the time. Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 33% of the time.
