ANALYSIS: Jacksonville presently has one of the below-average teams in college basketball. Their record this season is 11-13, and the club is ranked 283rd overall (out of 357) in Haslametrics' most recent ratings. They are also ranked by this site as the #7 team (out of nine) in the Atlantic Sun (average ranking 242.2).
Jacksonville is not one of the most productive teams on offense. Scoring fewer than 92 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are rated at #304 in offensive efficiency. Jacksonville happens to be one of the very worst in the game when it comes to maximizing the number of shot attempts they get off from the floor. The team is nationally ranked 333rd in offensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of only 77.85 vs. AO.
Though they rate better on defense than they do on offense, Jacksonville still isn't one of the more capable defensive teams in college hoops. Allowing roughly 103 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #228 in the nation in defensive efficiency. Jacksonville gives up too many chances to easily score off of offensive rebounds. The team allows AO to convert 6.7% of all second-chance opportunities (329th nationally), and with a rating of 15.65, they're 328th in potential points surrendered off of the offensive boards as well. Jacksonville has also done a pretty poor job this season to prevent opponents from making shots from the inside. The team is ranked 317th in the country in defensive near-proximity percentage, allowing AO to make good on 63.9% of their attempts from close-up. On a positive note, AO will take nowhere near as many inside shots as they typically would and, as a result, only 29.8% of AO's field goal attempts will come from short-distance.
Jacksonville is one of the most consistent teams in NCAA basketball (currently ranked 15th in consistency), which makes the outcomes of their upcoming games far easier to predict. On the road, Jacksonville performs noticeably worse than they do at home. The team is currently ranked 338th in the country in the away-from-home metric we track.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
When playing teams that convert well from outside the arc, Jacksonville usually performs worse than average. Jacksonville is more efficient than normal 39% of the time when facing clubs that have an offensive three-point field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 33.66%. In all other contests, Jacksonville performs better than average 78% of the time.
Jacksonville is typically better vs. teams that convert more frequently off of offensive rebounds. Against foes that have an offensive second-chance conversion percentage vs. AO greater than 4.25%, Jacksonville performs above their norm 73% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 36% of the time.
When facing teams that allow a greater number of field goal opportunities, Jacksonville often performs better than normal. Jacksonville is more efficient than usual 69% of the time when facing teams that have a defensive field goal attempt rate vs. AO greater than 80.74. In their other contests, Jacksonville performs better than the norm 33% of the time.
