ANALYSIS: Indiana State is a fairly decent basketball team that, while likely better than average, isn't quite good enough to crack any top-25 rankings this year. They have a record of 18-12 and are ranked 136th overall (out of 353) in the latest Haslametrics ratings. They are also ranked by this site as the #5 team (out of 10) in the MVC (average ranking 154.2).
Indiana State will likely rely on their offense more than anything else to win games. The team is ranked 133rd in offensive efficiency and scores more than 101 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Indiana State is one of the more accurate teams in the college game when it comes to shooting the three. They're ranked 31st nationally in three-point field goal percentage and make about 36.5% of their attempts from there vs. AO. Though they convert many of their threes, the team doesn't really shoot a ton of them. Only 34.5% of their total attempts vs. AO are from long-distance. Indiana State also does fairly solid work converting shots between the three-point stripe and the low post. The squad is ranked 70th nationally in mid-range field goal percentage, making about 39.5% of their attempts from those locations vs. AO.
Indiana State plays at roughly the same level defensively as they do offensively. The team ranks 144th nationally in defensive efficiency, allowing about 98 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Indiana State owns a pretty good track record against teams that shoot the three. They rank 72nd in the NCAA in defensive three-point percentage, allowing AO to make just 31.4% of their attempts from afar. If Indiana State does exhibit a weakness on the defensive end of the floor, it'd likely be the team's troubles stopping opponents from converting mid-range jumpers. AO will make good on 41.2% of their mid-range field goal attempts, and the squad ranks 38th-worst in that category because of it.
When playing on the road, Indiana State performs somewhat worse than they normally do on their home court. The club is nationally ranked 324th in our site's away-from-home metric.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
Indiana State performs better against squads that find ways to get to the free throw line. When facing teams that have an offensive free throw attempt rate vs. AO greater than 25.08, Indiana State is more efficient than normal 77% of the time. In their other contests, the team is more efficient 31% of the time.
When playing teams that do not defend well on the perimeter, Indiana State usually performs worse than average. Indiana State is more efficient than normal 40% of the time when facing clubs that have a defensive three-point field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 32.11%. In all other contests, Indiana State performs better than average 78% of the time.
