ANALYSIS: Bryant is a poor basketball team, arguably one of the very worst in all of college hoops. They are ranked #343 (out of 351) in the most recent Haslametrics ratings and have a record of 3-28. Of the 10 schools in the NEC (average ranking 278.1), they're currently ranked as the worst team in the conference.
Defense is the farthest thing from a strength for Bryant this year. The team ranks second from the bottom in defensive efficiency, allowing more than 118 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Bryant allows the opposition far too many easy shots from the floor and ranks in the bottom-25 in three of our four major defensive field goal shooting categories. AO will convert a healthy 41.9% of their three-pointers (second from the bottom in the nation), 69.0% of their near-proximity attempts (fifth from the bottom), and 50.8% of their total shots from the field (fifth from the bottom).
Bryant doesn't rate much better on offense than they do on defense. Scoring roughly 94 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #304 in the nation in offensive efficiency. Bryant will have a really tough time winning games when taking into consideration their shooting percentage near the basket. The team is ranked 331st in near-proximity field goal percentage, making only 52.7% of their attempts from up-close vs. AO. Moreover, they find themselves in the bottom-50 in overall offensive field goal percentage, converting just 40.6% of their total attempts vs. AO. Bryant also struggles to draw fouls and earn opportunities at the free throw line. With a free throw attempt rate of just 22.02 vs. AO, they are 316th in the overall rankings for that category.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
When facing teams that have trouble defending the mid-range shot, Bryant often performs better than normal. Bryant is more efficient than usual 67% of the time when facing teams that have a defensive mid-range field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 37.35%. In their other contests, Bryant performs better than the norm 23% of the time.
Bryant does worse vs. clubs that find ways to get to the free throw line. When playing squads that have an offensive free throw attempt rate vs. AO greater than 23.78, Bryant performs above average 36% of the time. Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 78% of the time.
Bryant performs better against squads that aren't terribly skilled defensively. When facing teams that have a defensive efficiency rating vs. AO greater than 107.83, Bryant is more efficient than normal 78% of the time. In their other contests, the team is more efficient 36% of the time.
