ANALYSIS: Not one of the better ball-clubs in college basketball, Merrimack should be a fairly easy win for most capable opponents. They have a record of 9-9 and are ranked 275th overall (out of 357) in the latest Haslametrics ratings. Of the 10 schools in the NEC (average ranking 266.2), they're currently ranked as our #5 team in the conference. With a strength-of-schedule rating of 0.270 (which ranks 336th in the nation), Merrimack has faced some of the easiest opponents in all of college basketball.
If there is a strength for Merrimack this year, it's probably on the defensive end of the court. The team is rated 175th in defensive efficiency, allowing fewer than 101 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO. Merrimack does a pretty solid job providing themselves chances to score quickly off of steals. They're ranked 29th in potential points off of breakaway steals vs. AO with a rating of 14.78.
The offense for Merrimack, on the other hand, isn't nearly as efficient as the defense is. The team is ranked 323rd in offensive efficiency, scoring about 90 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. Merrimack is not one of the better teams when it comes to sinking foul shots. Converting just 64.8% of their attempts, the squad is ranked #328 overall in free throw percentage. Merrimack is also one of the more inferior teams in the college game when it comes to maximizing opportunities to score on offense. The team is nationally ranked 312th in offensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of only 78.41 vs. AO.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
