ANALYSIS: They may not cause sleepless nights for opponents, but Wright State, as a slightly above-average team, cannot be totally ignored. Haslametrics has them ranked 142nd overall (out of 353) in All-Play Percentage, and the team holds a record of 25-7. Of the 10 schools in the Horizon League (average ranking 240.5), they're currently ranked as the best team in the conference.
Wright State will likely rely on their offense more than anything else to win games. The team is ranked 156th in offensive efficiency and scores more than 99 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Wright State does a really good job to acquire opportunities from the free throw line. With a free throw attempt rate of 29.81 vs. AO, they are ranked 29th in the nation at getting to the charity stripe. Unfortunately, they don't convert a ton of their free throws and make just 67.4% of their attempts. Wright State will also make a strong effort to get off as many field goals close to the basket as they can. The ball-club is 29th in the NCAA in ratio of near-proximity attempts to total field goal attempts. Curiously enough, though they shoot a fair amount of field goals from the inside, they don't really make a whole bunch of them, converting only 56.1% of their near-proximity attempts vs. AO.
Wright State plays at roughly the same level defensively as they do offensively. The team ranks 164th nationally in defensive efficiency, allowing about 99 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Although they have a capable defense, Wright State doesn't stand out in any one particular area on that end of the court, and they fall outside the top-100 in every one of the defensive categories we take into consideration for this analysis. If Wright State does exhibit a weakness on the defensive end of the floor, it'd likely be the team's issues trying to stop opponents from obtaining and converting second-chance opportunities via offensive rebounds. The squad has a defensive second-chance conversion percentage of 6.9% vs. AO, which ranks 26th-worst in the nation.
Wright State has recently performed below their norm from an efficiency standpoint. The team is currently ranked 324th in the country in positive momentum. When playing on the road, Wright State performs somewhat worse than they normally do on their home court. The club is nationally ranked 306th in our site's away-from-home metric.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
When playing teams that are typically efficient on offense, Wright State usually performs worse than average. Wright State is more efficient than normal 20% of the time when facing clubs that have an offensive efficiency rating vs. AO greater than 95.13. In all other contests, Wright State performs better than average 60% of the time.
Wright State is typically better vs. teams that fail to defend efficiently inside the paint. Against foes that have a defensive near-proximity field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 61.71%, Wright State performs above their norm 67% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 29% of the time.
