ANALYSIS: A top-25 caliber adversary, Wichita State will likely be a stiff test for any team in Division I. Haslametrics has them ranked 14th overall (out of 351) in All-Play Percentage, and the team holds a record of 30-5. Of the 10 schools in the MVC (average ranking 147.2), they're currently ranked as the best team in the conference.
The Wichita State defense will be extremely problematic for most opposing offenses. Allowing about 90 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO, the club is ranked 16th overall in defensive efficiency. Wichita State does a fantastic job to prevent opposing teams from capitalizing on chances from offensive rebounds. The squad allows AO to convert only 4.7% of all second-chance opportunities (ranked 13th in the NCAA), and with a rating of 12.70, they're 29th in potential points allowed off of the offensive glass as well. Wichita State also does a bang-up job preventing the opposition from draining jumpers in between the three-point line and the low post. They're ranked 17th in Division I in defensive mid-range field goal percentage, allowing AO to make good on only 30.7% of their attempts from that distance. To capitalize on that weakness, this team will make AO shoot from mid-range locations more than they usually would. Of AO's total field goals, a large portion of them (36.2%) will be from mid-range.
Wichita State plays at about the same level on offense as they do on defense. The team ranks 24th nationally in offensive efficiency, scoring about 111 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Wichita State allows very few breakaway opportunities for the opposition, which typically translates to fewer turnovers. The team's rating vs. AO for potential breakaway points allowed off of steals is 6.78, which ranks #1 in the country. Wichita State is also one of the very best when it comes to maximizing field goal opportunities. The team is ranked 11th in the NCAA in offensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of 87.11 vs. AO. And when they do shoot, they make a fair portion of their shots. Ranked in the top-100 in field goal shooting percentage, the squad converts about 44.8% of their total attempts vs. AO.
When playing on the road, Wichita State performs somewhat worse than they normally do on their home court. The club is nationally ranked 325th in our site's away-from-home metric.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.

Wichita State is more efficient than usual 26% of the time when facing teams that have a potential point rate off steals vs. AO greater than 10.81. In their other contests, Wichita State performs better than the norm 73% of the time.

Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 65% of the time.
