ANALYSIS:
While this site doesn't quite consider them to be in the national title hunt, Vermont has the potential to be a formidable opponent for many in Division I. They have a record of 26-7 and are ranked 83rd overall (out of 353) in the latest Haslametrics ratings. They are also ranked by this site as the best team (out of nine) in the America East (average ranking 251.0).

Vermont will mainly try to find success through their defense. They are ranked 73rd in defensive efficiency and allow fewer than 95 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. Vermont is a solid rebounding team that will deny the opposition chances to score off of offensive rebounds. They have a rating of 10.36 vs. AO in potential points allowed off of second chances (ranked 26th in the country). Vermont has also done a really good job this year to prevent opponents from making shots from the inside. They are ranked 45th in the country in defensive near-proximity percentage, allowing AO to make good on only 54.5% of their attempts from close-up. If Vermont does exhibit a noticeable weakness on the defensive end of the floor, it'd likely be the team's unwillingness to take risks in order to score fast points off of the opposition's turnovers. The squad only has a rating of 7.66 in potential points scored off of steals vs. AO, which ranks 13th-worst in the college game.

Vermont plays at about the same level on offense as they do on defense. The team ranks 85th nationally in offensive efficiency, scoring about 104 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Vermont will make a concerted effort to fire off quite a few three-pointers each game. The team ranks 46th in ratio of three-point attempts to total field goal attempts. When it comes to actually making their three-point attempts, the squad shoots a so-so 33.7% from beyond the arc vs. AO. If Vermont does have a weakness offensively, it would have to be the team's difficulties obtaining second-chance opportunities from offensive rebounds. The squad only has a rating of 9.65 vs. AO in potential points off of second chances, which ranks 28th-worst in college hoops.
SORTABLE SCHEDULE / RESULTS:
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location.
Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
Vermont performs better against squads that allow opponents to shoot well from the field. When facing teams that have a defensive field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 44.12%, Vermont is more efficient than normal 90% of the time. In their other contests, the team is more efficient 46% of the time.
When playing teams that have trouble defending the mid-range shot, Vermont usually performs better than average. Vermont is more efficient than normal 73% of the time when facing clubs that have a defensive mid-range field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 35.06%. In all other contests, Vermont performs better than average 30% of the time.
Vermont is typically better vs. teams that favor a faster tempo. Against foes that have a pace vs. AO greater than 69.38, Vermont performs above their norm 80% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 41% of the time.
