ANALYSIS: They're far from the worst of the worst, but Weber State should not be a terribly frightening opponent for most clubs. Carrying a record of 12-20, they are currently rated #256 overall (out of 353) in All-Play Percentage this season. Of the 11 schools in the Big Sky (average ranking 188.6), they're currently ranked as our #9 team in the conference.
Weber State does not provide much of a challenge on defense. They are ranked at #296 in efficiency on that end of the court and give up about 105 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO. Weber State allows the opposition to get off far too many shots from the floor. The team is ranked third from the bottom in the nation in defensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of 88.86 vs. AO. Weber State also does a very lackluster job preventing opponents from draining threes. They rank 308th nationally in defensive three-point percentage, allowing AO to make 36.0% of their attempts from afar. If Weber State does have a bright spot on defense, it would have to be their success preventing opponents from getting to the free throw line. The team has a defensive free throw attempt rate of 20.31 vs. AO, which ranks 26th-best in the country.
Though they rate better on offense than they do on defense, Weber State still isn't one of the more capable offensive teams in college hoops. Scoring roughly 95 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #239 in the nation in offensive efficiency. Weber State poses no threat whatsoever to grab rebounds off their own misses. Against AO, the ball-club has a rating of 8.92 in potential points scored off of second chances (341st nationally), and they convert just 3.5% of their second-chance opportunities (ranked 327th) as well. Weber State also struggles to draw fouls and earn opportunities at the free throw line. With a free throw attempt rate of just 21.23 vs. AO, they are 318th in the overall rankings for that category.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
When playing teams that convert well from the charity stripe, Weber State usually performs better than average. Weber State is more efficient than normal 70% of the time when facing clubs that have an adjusted free throw percentage vs. AO greater than 0.70%. In all other contests, Weber State performs better than average 33% of the time.
Weber State is typically worse vs. teams that fail to defend efficiently inside the paint. Against foes that have a defensive near-proximity field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 60.79%, Weber State performs above their norm 33% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 70% of the time.
