ANALYSIS:
The Citadel is not one of the better teams in Division I this year. They are ranked #331 (out of 353) in the most recent Haslametrics ratings and have a record of 6-24. Of the 10 schools in the Southern (average ranking 176.9), they're currently ranked as the worst team in the conference.

The Citadel has one of the most inept defenses in the NCAA. Allowing about 110 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they're ranked way down at #334 in defensive efficiency. The Citadel fares terribly when attempting to stop opponents from converting from the inside. The team is ranked fourth from the bottom in the country in defensive near-proximity percentage, allowing AO to make good on 68.0% of their attempts from close-up. The Citadel is also one of the very worst teams in the country in terms of overall defensive field goal percentage. The ball-club ranks #334 nationally in field goal percentage allowed, as AO will convert approximately 47.7% of their total attempts from the floor. The Citadel is lastly one of the very worst teams in the game when it comes to preventing opponents from scoring off of offensive rebounds. The team allows AO to convert 7.0% of all second-chance opportunities (331st nationally).

The Citadel doesn't rate much better on offense than they do on defense. Scoring roughly 92 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #286 in the nation in offensive efficiency. The Citadel tends to be very careless with the ball and allows far too many breakaway opportunities off of their own turnovers. The team's rating for potential breakaway points allowed off of steals vs. AO is 14.17, which ranks 340th in D1. The Citadel is also one of the more deficient teams in the nation as it pertains to scoring off of offensive rebounds. Against AO, the team converts only 3.6% of all second-chance opportunities (313th nationally).

When playing on the road, The Citadel has played their best basketball this season. The team is currently ranked third in the country in the away-from-home metric our site tracks.
