ANALYSIS: St. Peter's presently has one of the below-average teams in college basketball. They are ranked #312 (out of 353) in the most recent Haslametrics ratings and have a record of 10-22. Of the 11 schools in the MAAC (average ranking 271.5), they're currently ranked as our #10 team in the conference. With a strength-of-schedule rating of 0.324 (which ranks 330th in the nation), St. Peter's has faced some of the easiest opponents in all of college basketball.
St. Peter's has a very tough time coming by points on offense. Scoring about 92 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are woefully ranked #329 in offensive efficiency. St. Peter's is one of the least accurate teams when shooting from long-distance. They are ranked eighth from the bottom in three-point field goal percentage nationally and make just 29.8% of their attempts from long vs. AO. St. Peter's will also have a really tough time winning games when taking into consideration their shooting percentage near the basket. The team is ranked 331st in near-proximity field goal percentage, making only 52.9% of their attempts from up-close vs. AO.
Though they rate better on defense than they do on offense, St. Peter's still isn't one of the more capable defensive teams in college hoops. Allowing roughly 108 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #263 in the nation in defensive efficiency. St. Peter's does an extremely poor job to deny the opposition behind the arc. They rank eighth from the bottom nationally in defensive three-point percentage, allowing AO to make 39.8% of their attempts from afar. St. Peter's also commits too many fouls, which leads to plentiful free throw attempts for the opposition. With a defensive free throw attempt rate of 30.36 vs. AO, the squad is ranked #320 in the country in that category. If St. Peter's does have a bright spot on defense, it would have to be their success stopping opponents from earning second-chance opportunities via offensive boards. The team has a rating of 11.67 in potential points allowed off of second chances vs. AO, which ranks 40th-best in college hoops.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
St. Peter's does worse vs. clubs that effectively clean the offensive glass. When playing squads that have an offensive second-chance potential point rate vs. AO greater than 14.07, St. Peter's performs above average 18% of the time. Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 67% of the time.
St. Peter's performs worse against squads that convert more frequently off of offensive rebounds. When facing teams that have an offensive second-chance conversion percentage vs. AO greater than 5.42%, St. Peter's is more efficient than normal 29% of the time. In their other contests, the team is more efficient 73% of the time.
When playing teams that convert well from the charity stripe, St. Peter's usually performs better than average. St. Peter's is more efficient than normal 80% of the time when facing clubs that have an adjusted free throw percentage vs. AO greater than 71.62%. In all other contests, St. Peter's performs better than average 36% of the time.
