ANALYSIS: Not one of the better ball-clubs in college basketball, St. Francis (BKN) should be a fairly easy win for most capable opponents. Their record this season is 9-10, and the club is ranked 282nd overall (out of 357) in Haslametrics' most recent ratings. They are also ranked by this site as the #6 team (out of 10) in the NEC (average ranking 266.2). With a strength-of-schedule rating of 0.254 (which ranks 341st nationally), St. Francis (BKN) has had one of the cushiest slates in all of college basketball.
St. Francis (BKN) has one of the most inept defenses in the NCAA. Allowing about 110 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they're ranked way down at #337 in defensive efficiency. St. Francis (BKN) fouls far too much and sends the opposition to the line way too often. With a defensive free throw attempt rate of 30.82 vs. AO, the squad is ranked #347 in the country in that category. St. Francis (BKN) also allows opposing teams far too many easy chances from the floor, ranking in the bottom-50 in three of the four main defensive field goal shooting categories. They are at their worst when defending outside the paint, allowing AO to convert 38.0% of their three-pointers (338th in the nation), 42.9% of their mid-range chances (314th), and 48.1% of their total shots from the field (332nd). If St. Francis (BKN) does have a bright spot on defense, it would have to be their willingness to take risks in order to score fast points off of steals. The team has a solid rating of 14.22 in potential points scored off of steals vs. AO, which ranks 39th-best in college basketball.
Even though the team ranks considerably higher in offensive efficiency, St. Francis (BKN) isn't a powerhouse on that end of the floor either. Scoring roughly 98 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #206 in the nation in offensive efficiency. St. Francis (BKN) won't provide opponents much of a scare with their shooting percentage from the inside. The team is ranked 316th in near-proximity field goal percentage, making only 53.4% of their attempts from up-close vs. AO. If St. Francis (BKN) does have a strength offensively, it would have to be the team's care for the ball. The squad has a rating of 8.71 in potential points allowed off of steals vs. AO, which ranks 38th in the college game.
St. Francis (BKN) has been playing better basketball in their most recent outings, as evidenced by the team's #41 ranking in positive momentum.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
