ANALYSIS: If you see Seattle on the schedule, you will likely get one of the average to below-average teams in college hoops. Their record this season is 18-15, and the club is ranked 187th overall (out of 353) in Haslametrics' most recent ratings. Of the nine schools in the WAC (average ranking 182.8), they're currently ranked as our #5 team in the conference.
Seattle sports an offensive attack that is mediocre at best. Rated at #221 in offensive efficiency, they score about 100 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. Seattle will have a really tough time winning games when taking into consideration their shooting percentage near the basket. The team is ranked 342nd in near-proximity field goal percentage, making only 51.3% of their attempts from up-close vs. AO.
Seattle doesn't rate much better on defense than they do on offense. Allowing roughly 105 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #185 in the nation in defensive efficiency. Seattle is extremely underskilled to force steals that turn into quick and easy points. They're ranked #349 in potential points off of breakaway steals with a rating of only 7.20 vs. AO. Seattle also commits too many fouls, which leads to plentiful free throw attempts for the opposition. With a defensive free throw attempt rate of 30.41 vs. AO, the squad is ranked #321 in the country in that category. If Seattle does have a bright spot on defense, it would have to be their success stopping opponents from converting from locations near the basket. AO will convert just 55.1% of their near-proximity field goal attempts, and the team ranks 50th-best in the country in that category as a result.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
When playing teams that aren't terribly skilled defensively, Seattle usually performs better than average. Seattle is more efficient than normal 89% of the time when facing clubs that have a defensive efficiency rating vs. AO greater than 108.21. In all other contests, Seattle performs better than average 32% of the time.
Seattle is typically better vs. teams that tend to allow more shots on the perimeter. Against foes that have a defensive shooting proximity score vs. AO greater than 2.02, Seattle performs above their norm 79% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 24% of the time.
When facing teams that do a nice job converting inside the paint, Seattle often performs worse than normal. Seattle is more efficient than usual 30% of the time when facing teams that have an offensive near-proximity field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 57.06%. In their other contests, Seattle performs better than the norm 82% of the time.
