ANALYSIS:
Samford is not one of the better teams in Division I this year. Ranked 328th overall (out of 353) in our most recent ratings, they presently have a record of 10-23. Of the 10 schools in the Southern (average ranking 176.9), they're currently ranked as our #9 team in the conference.

Samford has one of the most inept defenses in the NCAA. Allowing about 111 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they're ranked way down at #336 in defensive efficiency. Samford allows the opposition far too many easy shots from the floor and ranks in the bottom-25 in three of our four major defensive field goal shooting categories. AO will convert a healthy 38.1% of their three-pointers (eighth from the bottom in the nation), 66.9% of their near-proximity attempts (341st), and 47.6% of their total shots from the field (331st). Samford also struggles on occasion to deny opponents opportunities to shoot from the floor. The team is ranked 324th in the nation in defensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of 85.90 vs. AO.

Though they rate better on offense than they do on defense, Samford still isn't one of the more capable offensive teams in college hoops. Scoring roughly 94 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #255 in the nation in offensive efficiency. Samford tends to be very careless with the ball and allows far too many breakaway opportunities off of their own turnovers. The team's rating for potential breakaway points allowed off of steals vs. AO is 13.85, which ranks 335th in D1. Samford also needs improvement when it comes to draining the mid-range shot. The team is ranked 325th in field goal percentage from that distance, making only 32.7% of their mid-range attempts vs. AO.

Samford has recently performed below their norm from an efficiency standpoint. The team is currently ranked 305th in the country in positive momentum.
SORTABLE SCHEDULE / RESULTS:
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location.
Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
Samford does better vs. clubs that effectively clean the offensive glass. When playing squads that have an offensive second-chance potential point rate vs. AO greater than 11.25, Samford performs above average 70% of the time. Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 30% of the time.
Samford performs worse against squads that are more proficient at draining the mid-range shot. When facing teams that have an offensive mid-range field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 37.43%, Samford is more efficient than normal 36% of the time. In their other contests, the team is more efficient 75% of the time.
When playing teams that tend to get off more shots, Samford usually performs worse than average. Samford is more efficient than normal 45% of the time when facing clubs that have an offensive field goal attempt rate vs. AO greater than 82.32. In all other contests, Samford performs better than average 80% of the time.
