ANALYSIS: Not one of the better ball-clubs in college basketball, Sacred Heart should be a fairly easy win for most capable opponents. Carrying a record of 9-9, they are currently rated #312 overall (out of 357) in All-Play Percentage this season. Of the 10 schools in the NEC (average ranking 266.2), they're currently ranked as our #9 team in the conference.
Defense is not exactly a strength for Sacred Heart this year. The team is ranked 328th in defensive efficiency and allows more than 109 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO. Sacred Heart fares terribly when attempting to stop opponents from converting from the inside. The team is ranked third from the bottom in the country in defensive near-proximity percentage, allowing AO to make good on 68.6% of their attempts from close-up. Sacred Heart also allows the opposition to get off far too many shots from the floor. The team is ranked fourth from the bottom in the nation in defensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of 89.14 vs. AO. Sacred Heart is lastly one of the very worst teams in the game when it comes to preventing opponents from scoring off of offensive rebounds. The team allows AO to convert 7.7% of all second-chance opportunities (fourth from the bottom nationally), and with a rating of 16.45, they're 346th in potential points surrendered off of the offensive boards as well.
Though they rate better on offense than they do on defense, Sacred Heart still isn't one of the more capable offensive teams in college hoops. Scoring roughly 95 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #258 in the nation in offensive efficiency. Sacred Heart struggles to drain shots consistently from most spots on the floor, ranking in the bottom-50 in three of the four primary field goal shooting categories. They are worse off shooting inside the three-point stripe, making good on just 33.8% of their mid-range jumpers (312th in the nation), 51.4% of their near-proximity chances (346th), and 39.4% of their total shots from the field (332nd) vs. AO.
Sacred Heart has recently performed below their norm from an efficiency standpoint. The team is currently ranked 316th in the country in positive momentum. Sacred Heart has also been one of the most erratic teams in college basketball this year (currently ranked 344th overall in consistency), which makes the outcomes of their future games far more difficult to predict.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
When playing teams that convert well from the charity stripe, Sacred Heart usually performs worse than average. Sacred Heart is more efficient than normal 44% of the time when facing clubs that have an adjusted free throw percentage vs. AO greater than 0.70%. Sacred Heart is typically worse vs. teams that convert well from outside the arc. Against foes that have an offensive three-point field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 32.47%, Sacred Heart performs above their norm 44% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 78% of the time.
