ANALYSIS: Regardless of what the win percentage says, Sacred Heart isn't a very good team this year. Carrying a record of 20-13, they are currently rated #213 overall (out of 353) in All-Play Percentage this season. Of the 11 schools in the NEC (average ranking 268.9), they're currently ranked as our #2 team in the conference. With a strength-of-schedule rating of 0.305 (which ranks 338th in the nation), Sacred Heart has faced some of the easiest opponents in all of college basketball.
Defensively, Sacred Heart finds itself in the lower half of our ratings. The team is ranked 252nd in defensive efficiency, giving up more than 102 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Sacred Heart allows the opposition to get off far too many shots from the floor. The team is ranked sixth from the bottom in the nation in defensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of 88.25 vs. AO. Sacred Heart will also fail to secure many opportunities to score quickly off of steals. They're ranked #303 in potential points off of breakaway steals with a rating of only 8.56 vs. AO.
Though they rate better on offense than they do on defense, Sacred Heart still isn't one of the more capable offensive teams in college hoops. Scoring roughly 98 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #190 in the nation in offensive efficiency. Sacred Heart has some difficulty protecting the ball efficiently when in possession, which leads to some quick and easy baskets for the opposition. The team's rating for potential breakaway points allowed off of steals vs. AO is 13.13, which ranks 318th in D1. Sacred Heart also won't provide opponents much of a scare with their shooting percentage from the inside. The team is ranked 311th in near-proximity field goal percentage, making only 53.7% of their attempts from up-close vs. AO. If Sacred Heart does have a strength offensively, it would have to be the team's ability to obtain and convert second-chance opportunities from offensive rebounds. The squad has a second-chance conversion percentage of 7.5% vs. AO, which ranks 14th in the nation.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
When playing teams that do a nice job converting inside the paint, Sacred Heart usually performs worse than average. Sacred Heart is more efficient than normal 14% of the time when facing clubs that have an offensive near-proximity field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 57.15%. In all other contests, Sacred Heart performs better than average 72% of the time.
Sacred Heart is typically worse vs. teams that shoot the ball well from the field. Against foes that have an offensive field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 41.84%, Sacred Heart performs above their norm 17% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 65% of the time.
When facing teams that are typically efficient on offense, Sacred Heart often performs worse than normal. Sacred Heart is more efficient than usual 23% of the time when facing teams that have an offensive efficiency rating vs. AO greater than 95.03. In their other contests, Sacred Heart performs better than the norm 63% of the time.
