ANALYSIS: Quinnipiac has a squad that most likely falls somewhere in the bottom half of NCAA Division I teams this year. Ranked 264th overall (out of 353) in our most recent ratings, they presently have a record of 15-15. Of the 11 schools in the MAAC (average ranking 246.4), they're currently ranked as our #6 team in the conference.
Quinnipiac will certainly not be one of the stingier defenses opponents will encounter. Allowing more than 106 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked down at #315 in defensive efficiency. Quinnipiac allows the opposition to get off far too many shots from the floor. The team is ranked fourth from the bottom in the nation in defensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of 88.73 vs. AO. Quinnipiac is also extremely underskilled to force steals that turn into quick and easy points. They're ranked #346 in potential points off of breakaway steals with a rating of only 7.39 vs. AO. Quinnipiac lastly does an extremely poor job to deny the opposition behind the arc. They rank 332nd nationally in defensive three-point percentage, allowing AO to make 36.9% of their attempts from afar. If Quinnipiac does have a bright spot on defense, it would have to be their success preventing opponents from getting to the free throw line. The team has a defensive free throw attempt rate of 21.67 vs. AO, which ranks 44th-best in the country.
Even though the team ranks considerably higher in offensive efficiency, Quinnipiac isn't a powerhouse on that end of the floor either. Scoring roughly 97 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #211 in the nation in offensive efficiency. Quinnipiac struggles to draw fouls and earn opportunities at the free throw line. With a free throw attempt rate of just 21.00 vs. AO, they are 322nd in the overall rankings for that category.
Quinnipiac has been one of the more erratic teams in NCAA basketball this year (presently ranked 304th in the country in consistency), which makes forecasting the outcomes of their upcoming games tougher than most.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
Quinnipiac performs worse against squads that convert more frequently off of offensive rebounds. When facing teams that have an offensive second-chance conversion percentage vs. AO greater than 3.98%, Quinnipiac is more efficient than normal 37% of the time. In their other contests, the team is more efficient 82% of the time.
When playing teams that allow a greater number of field goal opportunities, Quinnipiac usually performs worse than average. Quinnipiac is more efficient than normal 22% of the time when facing clubs that have a defensive field goal attempt rate vs. AO greater than 84.20. In all other contests, Quinnipiac performs better than average 67% of the time.
Quinnipiac is typically worse vs. teams that are more proficient at draining the mid-range shot. Against foes that have an offensive mid-range field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 34.15%, Quinnipiac performs above their norm 40% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 80% of the time.
