ANALYSIS: This website places Providence in the top 25% of all NCAA college basketball teams this year. Ranked 32nd overall (out of 358) in our most recent ratings, they presently have a record of 27-6. They are also ranked by this site as the #3 team (out of 11) in the Big East (average ranking 64.5).
Providence succeeds primarily through their offense. They are ranked 32nd in offensive efficiency and score in excess of 110 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. Providence does a super job in their efforts to get to the free throw line. With a free throw attempt rate of 31.17 vs. AO, they are ranked fourth in the nation at getting to the charity stripe, where the team shoots a rather mediocre 73.4%. Providence also does a pretty good job of protecting the ball when they have possession and not allowing quick and easy baskets off of their own turnovers. The team's rating vs. AO for potential breakaway points allowed off of steals is 8.72, which ranks #38 in the country.
Providence plays at roughly the same level defensively as they do offensively. The team ranks 51st nationally in defensive efficiency, allowing about 94 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Providence will take a bite out of many opponents' shooting percentages, based on the fact that the team ranks in the top-50 in three of our four primary defensive field goal categories. They allow AO to convert only 28.6% of their three-pointers (11th in the nation), 52.1% of their near-proximity attempts (16th), and 39.6% of their total shots from the field (32nd). Providence is also one of the better teams when it comes to not allowing opponents to convert scoring chances off of offensive rebounds. The squad allows AO to convert only 3.5% of all second-chance opportunities (ranked 31st in the NCAA).
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
