ANALYSIS: Omaha is a fairly decent basketball team that, while likely better than average, isn't quite good enough to crack any top-25 rankings this year. Haslametrics has them ranked 140th overall (out of 364) in All-Play Percentage, and the team holds a record of 22-13. Of the nine schools in the Summit League (average ranking 207.3), they're currently ranked as our #3 team in the conference.
The primary strength for Omaha this year is offense. The team is ranked 91st in efficiency on that end of the floor, and they'll rack up more than 112 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO. Omaha is fairly competent protecting the ball on offense, which minimizes opportunities for the opponent to score quickly off of steals. The team's rating vs. AO for potential breakaway points allowed off of steals is 10.83, which ranks #82 in the country.
The defense for Omaha, on the other hand, isn't nearly as efficient as the offense is. The team is ranked 226th in defensive efficiency, allowing about 110 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. Omaha hasn't done terribly well defending the mid-range jumper. The squad is ranked 293rd nationally in defensive mid-range field goal percentage, allowing AO to make good on 40.6% of their attempts from those in-between spots on the floor. If Omaha does have a bright spot on defense, it would have to be their ability to prevent opponents from converting second-chance opportunities via offensive rebounds. The team has a defensive second-chance conversion percentage of 4.4% vs. AO, which ranks 28th-best in the nation.
Omaha has been playing some of its most efficient basketball of the season recently and is presently ranked third in positive momentum.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
Omaha does better vs. clubs that prefer the outside shot. When playing squads that have an offensive shooting proximity score vs. AO greater than 2.08, Omaha performs above average 91% of the time. Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 32% of the time.
Omaha performs better against squads that convert well from the charity stripe. When facing teams that have an adjusted free throw percentage vs. AO greater than 0.75%, Omaha is more efficient than normal 91% of the time. In their other contests, the team is more efficient 32% of the time.
When playing teams that favor a faster tempo, Omaha usually performs worse than average. Omaha is more efficient than normal 27% of the time when facing clubs that have a pace vs. AO greater than 66.93. In all other contests, Omaha performs better than average 72% of the time.
