ANALYSIS: While not an atrocious team by any means, UNC Asheville is not exactly one that should appear in many top-100 rankings either. Ranked 209th overall (out of 358) in our most recent ratings, they presently have a record of 17-15. They are also ranked by this site as the #4 team (out of 12) in the Big South (average ranking 245.6).
UNC Asheville does not have a terribly exceptional defense this year. Rated at #213 in defensive efficiency, they allow around 103 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. UNC Asheville performs really badly when attempting to stop opponents from making mid-range jumpers. The squad is ranked eighth from the bottom nationally in defensive mid-range field goal percentage, allowing AO to make good on 44.1% of their attempts from those in-between spots on the floor. UNC Asheville also gives up far too many offensive rebounds and second chances to their opponents. The club has a rating of 16.45 vs. AO in potential points allowed off of second chances (342nd nationally), and they let AO convert a healthy 6.5% of all second-chance opportunities (ranked 321st) as well.
UNC Asheville doesn't rate much better on offense than they do on defense. Scoring roughly 100 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #189 in the nation in offensive efficiency. UNC Asheville fares worse than most teams when it comes to converting from locations close to the hoop. The team is ranked 281st in near-proximity field goal percentage, making only 55.2% of their attempts from up-close vs. AO.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
