ANALYSIS: Loyola-Chicago is a fairly decent basketball team that, while likely better than average, isn't quite good enough to crack any top-25 rankings this year. Haslametrics has them ranked 113th overall (out of 353) in All-Play Percentage, and the team holds a record of 21-11. Of the 10 schools in the MVC (average ranking 154.2), they're currently ranked as our #2 team in the conference.
The primary strength for Loyola-Chicago is defense. The team is ranked 90th in efficiency, allowing fewer than 96 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Loyola-Chicago is a superior unit when it comes to preventing opponents from getting to the foul line. With a defensive free throw attempt rate of 19.00 vs. AO, they are currently rated tenth in the country in that category. Loyola-Chicago also does a super job to deny opponents offensive rebounds and second chances. They have a rating of 9.88 vs. AO in potential points allowed off of second chances (ranked 14th in the country). If Loyola-Chicago does exhibit a weakness on the defensive end of the floor, it'd likely be the team's inability to stop opponents from sinking threes. AO will convert 36.4% of their three-point attempts, and the team ranks 38th-worst in that category because of it.
Loyola-Chicago is also a fairly decent team on the offensive end of the court. The team ranks 150th nationally in offensive efficiency, scoring about 100 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Loyola-Chicago will routinely look to penetrate, pound the ball inside, and score from as short a distance as possible. The ball-club is third in the NCAA in ratio of near-proximity attempts to total field goal attempts. If you do allow them to get to the inside, they are undoubtedly capable of making you pay. Presently rated in the top-75 in near-proximity shooting percentage, they make roughly 62.5% of their attempts from short-distance vs. AO. Loyola-Chicago is also one of the best field goal shooting teams that opposing defenses will have the displeasure of facing this season. The squad is ranked eighth in the country in field goal percentage, making approximately 48.6% of their attempts vs. AO. If Loyola-Chicago does have a glaring weakness offensively, it would have to be the team's difficulties in getting off a sufficient number of shots each possession. The squad has a field goal attempt rate of just 75.51 vs. AO, which ranks fifth-worst in college basketball.
When playing on the road, Loyola-Chicago performs somewhat worse than they normally do on their home court. The club is nationally ranked 316th in our site's away-from-home metric.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:

Against foes that have an offensive near-proximity field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 59.71%, Loyola-Chicago performs above their norm 9% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 65% of the time.

Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 17% of the time.
