ANALYSIS: La Salle is a fairly decent basketball team that, while likely better than average, isn't quite good enough to crack any top-25 rankings this year. Ranked 102nd overall (out of 351) in our most recent ratings, they presently have a record of 17-16. They are also ranked by this site as the #7 team (out of 14) in the A-10 (average ranking 122.4).
La Salle has a fairly effective defensive attack. Occupying the #31 slot in our defensive efficiency ratings, they will allow about 92 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO. La Salle makes a point to avoid fouls and prevent opponents from getting to the free throw line. With a defensive free throw attempt rate of 25.13 vs. AO, they are currently rated 52nd in the country in that category. La Salle has also been pretty good preventing teams from hitting shots in the paint. They are ranked 61st in the country in defensive near-proximity percentage, allowing AO to make good on only 54.6% of their attempts from close-up.
Unfortunately, La Salle is not even remotely close to being as good on offense as they are on defense. The team is ranked 219th in offensive efficiency, scoring about 98 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. Despite their struggles on offense, La Salle doesn't really stand out as being terrible in any one particular area on that end of the floor. In fact, they aren't even in the bottom-100 in any of the offensive categories we consider for this analysis.
La Salle is one of the more consistent teams in Division I (presently ranked 47th in consistency), so forecasting the outcomes of their future contests tends to be easier than the norm.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
La Salle performs better against squads that tend to get off more shots. When facing teams that have an offensive field goal attempt rate vs. AO greater than 80.59, La Salle is more efficient than normal 75% of the time. In their other contests, the team is more efficient 15% of the time.
When playing teams that do a nice job converting inside the paint, La Salle usually performs worse than average. La Salle is more efficient than normal 35% of the time when facing clubs that have an offensive near-proximity field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 59.02%. In all other contests, La Salle performs better than average 90% of the time.
La Salle is typically worse vs. teams that typically allow more than a fair share of breakaway opportunities. Against foes that have a potential point rate allowed off steals vs. AO greater than 11.51, La Salle performs above their norm 31% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 71% of the time.
