ANALYSIS:
Kansas State is one of the teams in the upper echelon of college basketball this year. Carrying a record of 25-9, they are currently rated #17 overall (out of 353) in All-Play Percentage this season. Of the 10 schools in the Big 12 (average ranking 35.3), they're currently ranked as our #3 team in the conference. With a strength-of-schedule rating of 0.745 (which ranks 20th nationally), Kansas State is one of the more battle-tested teams in the college game.

The Kansas State defense will be extremely problematic for most opposing offenses. Allowing about 87 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO and demonstrating a preference for a more deliberate, half-court style of play (the 21st-slowest pace in D1), the club is ranked third overall in defensive efficiency. Kansas State will do a number on many an opponent's shooting percentage, as the team ranks in the top-25 in three of our four major defensive field goal categories. They'll inflict the most harm on the outside, allowing AO to convert just 30.4% of their three-pointers (15th in the nation), 29.5% of their mid-range chances (seventh), and 39.6% of their total shots from the field (22nd). Kansas State also has extremely pesky defenders that ceaselessly attempt to deny opponents ample opportunity to shoot. The club is ranked eighth in Division I in defensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of 77.22 vs. AO.

Kansas State is also a fairly decent team on the offensive end of the court. The team ranks 70th nationally in offensive efficiency, scoring about 109 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Kansas State allows very few breakaway opportunities for the opposition, which typically translates to fewer turnovers. The team's rating vs. AO for potential breakaway points allowed off of steals is 9.04, which ranks #22 in the country. Kansas State is also superb at converting jumpers in between the three-point stripe and the low post. The squad is ranked 23rd nationally in mid-range field goal percentage, making about 40.4% of their attempts from those locations vs. AO. The team will take a fair amount of shots from those in-between locations, too. Approximately 29.8% of their attempts vs. AO are of the mid-range variety, which puts the team in the top-75 in that category nationally.

Kansas State has been playing better basketball in their most recent outings, as evidenced by the team's #43 ranking in positive momentum. When playing on the road, Kansas State has played their best basketball this season. The team is currently ranked eighth in the country in the away-from-home metric our site tracks.
SORTABLE SCHEDULE / RESULTS:
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location.
Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
When facing teams that aren't terribly skilled defensively, Kansas State often performs worse than normal. Kansas State is more efficient than usual 35% of the time when facing teams that have a defensive efficiency rating vs. AO greater than 94.81. In their other contests, Kansas State performs better than the norm 82% of the time.
Kansas State does worse vs. clubs that do not defend well on the perimeter. When playing squads that have a defensive three-point field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 32.34%, Kansas State performs above average 33% of the time. Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 77% of the time.
Kansas State performs worse against squads that have trouble defending the mid-range shot. When facing teams that have a defensive mid-range field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 35.11%, Kansas State is more efficient than normal 23% of the time. In their other contests, the team is more efficient 67% of the time.
