ANALYSIS:
While this site doesn't quite consider them to be in the national title hunt, Oregon State has the potential to be a formidable opponent for many in Division I. Ranked 35th overall (out of 357) in our most recent ratings, they presently have a record of 20-13. They are also ranked by this site as the #7 team (out of 12) in the Pac-12 (average ranking 44.9). With a strength-of-schedule rating of 0.808 (which ranks 11th nationally), Oregon State is one of the more battle-tested teams in the college game.

The primary strength for Oregon State this year is offense. The team is ranked 35th in efficiency on that end of the floor, and they'll rack up more than 109 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO. Oregon State does a really good job to acquire opportunities from the free throw line. With a free throw attempt rate of 28.84 vs. AO, they are ranked 32nd in the nation at getting to the charity stripe. In addition, the team is in the top-50 in free throw shooting, converting a solid 76.5% of their attempts. Oregon State is also one of the more accurate teams in the college game when it comes to shooting the three. They're ranked 41st nationally in three-point field goal percentage and make about 37.1% of their attempts from there vs. AO.

Oregon State plays at roughly the same level defensively as they do offensively. The team ranks 49th nationally in defensive efficiency, allowing about 93 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Oregon State will do a number on many an opponent's shooting percentage, as the team ranks in the top-25 in three of our four major defensive field goal categories. They'll inflict the most harm on the outside, allowing AO to convert just 28.2% of their three-pointers (second in the nation), 32.9% of their mid-range chances (20th), and 38.3% of their total shots from the field (fifth). If Oregon State does exhibit a weakness on the defensive end of the floor, it'd likely be the team's tendency to send opponents to the line too much by fouling. The squad has a rating of 28.69 in defensive free throw attempt rate vs. AO, which ranks 47th-worst in the country.

Oregon State has been playing some of its most efficient basketball of the season recently and is presently ranked fourth in positive momentum. When playing on the road, Oregon State has played their best basketball this season. The team is currently ranked eighth in the country in the away-from-home metric our site tracks.
