ANALYSIS: UCF is a fairly decent basketball team that, while likely better than average, isn't quite good enough to crack any top-25 rankings this year. They are ranked #113 (out of 357) in the most recent Haslametrics ratings and have a record of 11-12. Of the 11 schools in the AAC (average ranking 120.0), they're currently ranked as our #5 team in the conference.
If there is a strength for UCF this year, it's probably on the offensive end of the court. The team is rated 108th in offensive efficiency, scoring more than 103 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. UCF is one of the better teams in the country when it comes to converting scoring chances off of offensive rebounds. Against AO, the team successfully converts 7.1% of all second-chance opportunities (ranked 31st nationally). UCF also fares better than most teams when it comes to converting from locations close to the basket. The team is ranked 68th in the country in near-proximity field goal percentage, making approximately 62.7% of their attempts from up-close vs. AO.
UCF plays at roughly the same level defensively as they do offensively. The team ranks 113th nationally in defensive efficiency, allowing about 97 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. UCF has been fairly decent in preventing teams from draining shots from between the three-point stripe and the low post. They're ranked 52nd in Division I in defensive mid-range field goal percentage, allowing AO to make good on only 34.4% of their attempts from that distance. Due to this fact, AO will take nowhere near as many mid-range shots as they typically would and, as a result, only 24.2% of AO's field goal attempts will come from those in-between locations.
UCF is one of the more consistent teams in Division I (presently ranked 46th in consistency), so forecasting the outcomes of their future contests tends to be easier than the norm.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
