Oklahoma has a fairly effective defensive attack. Occupying the #39 slot in our defensive efficiency ratings, they will allow about 91 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO. Oklahoma is a superior unit when it comes to preventing opponents from getting to the foul line. With a defensive free throw attempt rate of 17.49 vs. AO, they are currently rated second in the country in that category. Oklahoma will also do a number on many an opponent's shooting percentage, as the team ranks in the top-25 in three of our four major defensive field goal categories. They're most likely to shut you down inside the three-point arc, considering the team limits AO to converting just 31.6% of their mid-range jumpers (tenth in the nation), 52.7% of their near-proximity chances (25th), and 38.8% of their total shots from the field (15th). Oklahoma lastly does a fantastic job to prevent opposing teams from capitalizing on chances from offensive rebounds. The squad allows AO to convert only 3.4% of all second-chance opportunities (ranked 15th in the NCAA). If Oklahoma does exhibit a noticeable weakness on the defensive end of the floor, it'd likely be the team's propensity to allow too many shot attempts per trip. The squad has a rating of 86.45 in defensive field goal attempt rate vs. AO, which ranks 23rd-worst in college basketball.
Oklahoma plays at about the same level on offense as they do on defense. The team ranks 50th nationally in offensive efficiency, scoring about 106 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Oklahoma is deadly accurate at the free throw line. Making 76.7% of their attempts from the stripe, they are ranked 24th nationally in free throw percentage. Oklahoma also has one of the better squads in the college game when it comes to maximizing opportunities to score. The team is ranked 28th in the NCAA in offensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of 85.58 vs. AO. As far as making those field goal attempts goes, the team is somewhat middle-of-the-road, converting about 44.3% of them vs. AO. If Oklahoma does have a glaring weakness offensively, it would have to be the team's difficulties obtaining second-chance opportunities from offensive rebounds. The squad only has a rating of 9.25 vs. AO in potential points off of second chances, which ranks 18th-worst in college hoops.
