ANALYSIS: Not one of the better ball-clubs in college basketball, Cent. Arkansas should be a fairly easy win for most capable opponents. They have a record of 5-19 and are ranked 297th overall (out of 357) in the latest Haslametrics ratings. They are also ranked by this site as the #7 team (out of 13) in the Southland (average ranking 265.5).
Defense is not exactly a strength for Cent. Arkansas this year. The team is ranked 322nd in defensive efficiency and allows more than 108 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO. Cent. Arkansas is extremely underskilled to force steals that turn into quick and easy points. They're ranked #336 in potential points off of breakaway steals with a rating of only 7.65 vs. AO. Cent. Arkansas also does a very lackluster job preventing opponents from draining threes. They rank 329th nationally in defensive three-point percentage, allowing AO to make 37.4% of their attempts from afar. And to expose that weakness, AO will gladly launch the three all day and all night. Of AO's total field goals, a large chunk of them (41.8%) will be from long-distance.
Though they rate better on offense than they do on defense, Cent. Arkansas still isn't one of the more capable offensive teams in college hoops. Scoring roughly 95 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #259 in the nation in offensive efficiency. Cent. Arkansas won't provide opponents much of a scare with their shooting percentage from the inside. The team is ranked 330th in near-proximity field goal percentage, making only 52.6% of their attempts from up-close vs. AO.
Cent. Arkansas is one of the more consistent teams in Division I (presently ranked 37th in consistency), so forecasting the outcomes of their future contests tends to be easier than the norm.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
Cent. Arkansas is typically worse vs. teams that allow more chances at the line. Against foes that have a defensive free throw attempt rate vs. AO greater than 26.62, Cent. When facing teams that tend to allow more shots on the perimeter, Cent. Arkansas often performs better than normal. Cent. Arkansas performs better than the norm 25% of the time.
Cent. Arkansas does worse vs. clubs that fail to defend efficiently inside the paint. When playing squads that have a defensive near-proximity field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 59.20%, Cent. Arkansas performs above average 33% of the time. Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 88% of the time.
