ANALYSIS: Campbell presently has one of the below-average teams in college basketball. They have a record of 14-18 and are ranked 320th overall (out of 362) in the latest Haslametrics ratings. They are also ranked by this site as the #12 team (out of 14) in the CAA (average ranking 215.7).
Campbell has one of the most inept defenses in the NCAA. Allowing about 113 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they're ranked way down at #338 in defensive efficiency. Campbell allows the opposition to get off far too many shots from the floor. The team is ranked tenth from the bottom in the nation in defensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of 90.76 vs. AO. Campbell also performs really badly when attempting to stop opponents from making mid-range jumpers. The squad is ranked 344th nationally in defensive mid-range field goal percentage, allowing AO to make good on 44.4% of their attempts from those in-between spots on the floor. Thankfully, AO will take nowhere near as many mid-range shots vs. Campbell as they typically would, as only 22.0% of their field goal attempts will come from in-between locations. If Campbell does have a bright spot on defense, it would have to be their success preventing opponents from getting to the free throw line. The team has a defensive free throw attempt rate of 20.08 vs. AO, which ranks 11th-best in the country.
Though they rate better on offense than they do on defense, Campbell still isn't one of the more capable offensive teams in college hoops. Scoring roughly 99 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #279 in the nation in offensive efficiency. Campbell poses no threat whatsoever to grab rebounds off their own misses. Against AO, the ball-club has a rating of 9.15 in potential points scored off of second chances (tenth from the bottom nationally), and they convert just 3.5% of their second-chance opportunities (ranked 344th) as well. Campbell also happens to be one of the very worst in the game when it comes to maximizing the number of shot attempts they get off from the floor. The team is nationally ranked 349th in offensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of only 80.49 vs. AO.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
Campbell does worse vs. clubs that convert more frequently off of offensive rebounds. When playing squads that have an offensive second-chance conversion percentage vs. AO greater than 5.50%, Campbell performs above average 17% of the time. Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 77% of the time.
Campbell performs worse against squads that effectively clean the offensive glass. When facing teams that have an offensive second-chance potential point rate vs. AO greater than 14.47, Campbell is more efficient than normal 17% of the time. In their other contests, the team is more efficient 77% of the time.
When playing teams that are likely to allow more second chances off of offensive rebounds, Campbell usually performs better than average. Campbell is more efficient than normal 89% of the time when facing clubs that have a defensive second-chance potential point rate vs. AO greater than 14.87. In all other contests, Campbell performs better than average 35% of the time.
