ANALYSIS: Not one of the better ball-clubs in college basketball, Campbell should be a fairly easy win for most capable opponents. They are ranked #312 (out of 351) in the most recent Haslametrics ratings and have a record of 12-18. Of the 11 schools in the Big South (average ranking 242.0), they're currently ranked as our #10 team in the conference. With a strength-of-schedule rating of 0.325 (which ranks 333rd nationally), Campbell has had one of the cushiest slates in all of college basketball.
Defense is not exactly a strength for Campbell this year. The team is ranked 319th in defensive efficiency and allows more than 110 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO. Campbell allows opposing teams far too many easy chances from the floor, ranking in the bottom-50 in three of the four main defensive field goal shooting categories. AO will convert a healthy 39.7% of their three-pointers (ninth from the bottom in the nation), 65.2% of their near-proximity attempts (323rd), and 49.4% of their total shots from the field (eighth from the bottom). Campbell also gives up too many chances to easily score off of offensive rebounds. The team allows AO to convert 8.8% of all second-chance opportunities (311th nationally).
Campbell doesn't rate much better on offense than they do on defense. Scoring roughly 95 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #277 in the nation in offensive efficiency. Campbell poses no threat whatsoever to grab rebounds off their own misses. Against AO, the ball-club has a rating of 10.21 in potential points scored off of second chances (338th nationally), and they convert just 4.2% of their second-chance opportunities (ranked 335th) as well. Campbell also won't enter the conversation if you're looking to list the best three-point shooting teams in the country. They are ranked 302nd in three-point field goal percentage nationally and make just 31.4% of their attempts from long vs. AO.
Campbell has been one of the most erratic teams in college basketball this year (currently ranked 330th overall in consistency), which makes the outcomes of their future games far more difficult to predict. When playing on the road, Campbell has played their best basketball this season. The team is currently ranked 12th in the country in the away-from-home metric our site tracks.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
When facing teams that allow a greater number of field goal opportunities, Campbell often performs worse than normal. Campbell is more efficient than usual 38% of the time when facing teams that have a defensive field goal attempt rate vs. AO greater than 80.03. In their other contests, Campbell performs better than the norm 73% of the time.
