ANALYSIS: They may not cause sleepless nights for opponents, but Oral Roberts, as a slightly above-average team, cannot be totally ignored. Carrying a record of 18-11, they are currently rated #98 overall (out of 357) in All-Play Percentage this season. Of the nine schools in the Summit League (average ranking 204.1), they're currently ranked as our #2 team in the conference.
Oral Roberts succeeds primarily through their offense. They are ranked 58th in offensive efficiency and score in excess of 107 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. Oral Roberts is deadly accurate at the free throw line. Making 83.3% of their attempts from the stripe, they are ranked first nationally in free throw percentage. Unfortunately, with a free throw attempt rate of just 22.59 vs. AO, they don't provide themselves a whole lot of opportunities at the foul line. Oral Roberts also lives and dies by the three-ball and will launch from long-distance early and often. The team ranks tenth in ratio of three-point attempts to total field goal attempts. If you do allow them to shoot from long, they have the ability to punish you for it, too. Ranked in the top-75 in three-point shooting percentage, they make approximately 36.1% of their three-point attempts vs. AO.
Oral Roberts is also a fairly decent team on the defensive end of the court. The team ranks 155th nationally in defensive efficiency, allowing about 99 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Oral Roberts has been able to successfully prevent opponents from making shots between the three-point stripe and the low post. They're ranked 46th in Division I in defensive mid-range field goal percentage, allowing AO to make good on only 34.3% of their attempts from that distance. If Oral Roberts does exhibit a noticeable weakness on the defensive end of the floor, it'd likely be the team's difficulties stopping opponents from obtaining second-chance opportunities via offensive rebounds. The squad has a rating of 16.83 in potential points allowed off of second chances vs. AO, which ranks ninth-worst in college hoops.
Oral Roberts has been playing some of its most efficient basketball of the season recently and is presently ranked 21st in positive momentum.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
When facing teams that allow more chances at the line, Oral Roberts often performs worse than normal. Oral Roberts is more efficient than usual 13% of the time when facing teams that have a defensive free throw attempt rate vs. AO greater than 25.21. In their other contests, Oral Roberts performs better than the norm 72% of the time.
Oral Roberts does better vs. clubs that favor a faster tempo. When playing squads that have a pace vs. AO greater than 71.83, Oral Roberts performs above average 80% of the time. Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 38% of the time.
Oral Roberts performs worse against squads that prefer the outside shot. When facing teams that have an offensive shooting proximity score vs. AO greater than 1.99, Oral Roberts is more efficient than normal 38% of the time. In their other contests, the team is more efficient 80% of the time.
