ANALYSIS: Alabama A&M is a poor basketball team, arguably one of the very worst in all of college hoops. Ranked fifth from the bottom overall (out of 364) in our most recent ratings, they presently have a record of 10-22. They are also ranked by this site as the #10 team (out of 12) in the SWAC (average ranking 318.6). With a strength-of-schedule rating of 0.254 (which ranks 352nd in the nation), Alabama A&M has faced some of the easiest opponents in all of college basketball.
Alabama A&M has a very tough time coming by points on offense. Scoring about 92 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are woefully ranked #360 in offensive efficiency. Alabama A&M is a lousy shooting team, incapable of converting efficiently from anyplace on the floor and ranking in the bottom-50 in each of our four most noteworthy field goal shooting categories. They make just 31.1% of their three-pointers (ranking 318th nationally), 31.0% of their mid-range attempts (352nd), 51.3% of their near-proximity chances (353rd), and 38.1% of their total shots from the field (fifth from the bottom) vs. AO. Alabama A&M is also not one of the better teams when it comes to sinking foul shots. Converting just 66.7% of their attempts, the squad is ranked #334 overall in free throw percentage.
Alabama A&M doesn't rate much better on defense than they do on offense. Allowing roughly 118 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #348 in the nation in defensive efficiency. Alabama A&M fouls far too much and sends the opposition to the line way too often. With a defensive free throw attempt rate of 35.17 vs. AO, the squad is ranked #362 in the country in that category. Alabama A&M also allows opposing teams far too many easy chances from the floor, ranking in the bottom-50 in three of the four main defensive field goal shooting categories. AO will convert a healthy 39.1% of their three-pointers (fourth from the bottom in the nation), 63.6% of their near-proximity attempts (330th), and 48.6% of their total shots from the field (349th). If Alabama A&M does have a bright spot on defense, it would have to be their ability to limit the number of shot attempts by the opposition. The team has a defensive field goal attempt rate of 82.62 vs. AO, which ranks 20th-best in college basketball.
Alabama A&M has recently performed below their norm from an efficiency standpoint. The team is currently ranked 317th in the country in positive momentum. When playing on the road, Alabama A&M performs somewhat worse than they normally do on their home court. The club is nationally ranked 322nd in our site's away-from-home metric.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
