ANALYSIS: A borderline top-25 caliber adversary, Arkansas will likely be a stiff test for any team in Division I. Haslametrics has them ranked 30th overall (out of 351) in All-Play Percentage, and the team holds a record of 26-10. They are also ranked by this site as the #4 team (out of 14) in the SEC (average ranking 60.9).
The primary strength for Arkansas this year is offense. The team is ranked 27th in efficiency on that end of the floor, and they'll rack up more than 113 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO. Arkansas is an excellent shooting team, capable of converting from multiple locations on the court and ranking in the top-50 in three of our four primary field goal categories. They convert 38.1% of their three-pointers (44th in the nation), 70.1% of their near-proximity attempts (fourth), and 48.1% of their total shots from the field (31st) vs. AO. Arkansas is also deadly accurate at the free throw line. Making 76.7% of their attempts from the stripe, they are ranked 22nd nationally in free throw percentage. Moreover, they get ample opportunity to beat you from the line, as the ball-club falls in the top-75 in free throw attempt rate with a rating of 31.07 vs. AO.
Arkansas plays at roughly the same level defensively as they do offensively. The team ranks 58th nationally in defensive efficiency, allowing about 96 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Arkansas thrives on scoring fast and easy points off of steals. They're ranked second in potential points off of breakaway steals vs. AO with a rating of 15.74. Arkansas will also take a bite out of many opponents' shooting percentages, based on the fact that the team ranks in the top-50 in three of our four primary defensive field goal categories. They'll inflict the most harm on the outside, allowing AO to convert just 32.1% of their three-pointers (41st in the nation), 30.7% of their mid-range chances (fifth), and 39.9% of their total shots from the field (30th). If Arkansas does exhibit a weakness on the defensive end of the floor, it'd likely be the team's difficulties stopping opponents from obtaining second-chance opportunities via offensive rebounds. The squad has a rating of 17.21 in potential points allowed off of second chances vs. AO, which ranks 27th-worst in college hoops.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
Arkansas is typically worse vs. teams that do a nice job converting inside the paint. Against foes that have an offensive near-proximity field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 65.24%, Arkansas performs above their norm 17% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 63% of the time.
When facing teams that fail to defend efficiently inside the paint, Arkansas often performs worse than normal. Arkansas is more efficient than usual 24% of the time when facing teams that have a defensive near-proximity field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 56.23%. In their other contests, Arkansas performs better than the norm 68% of the time.
