ANALYSIS: Columbia is not one of the better teams in Division I this year. Carrying a record of 6-24, they are currently rated #299 overall (out of 353) in All-Play Percentage this season. They are also ranked by this site as the worst team (out of eight) in the Ivy League (average ranking 189.5).
Columbia is not one of the better offensive teams you will find. They are rated #287 in efficiency on that end of the court and only score about 92 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO. Columbia does a terrible job to take advantage of scoring chances off of offensive rebounds. Against AO, the team converts only 2.9% of all second-chance opportunities (eighth from the bottom nationally), and with a rating of 9.75, they're 320th in potential points scored off of the offensive boards as well. Columbia is also one of the least accurate teams when shooting from long-distance. They are ranked 335th in three-point field goal percentage nationally and make just 29.1% of their attempts from long vs. AO. Columbia lastly does an extremely poor job drawing fouls and getting to the free throw line. With a free throw attempt rate of just 20.23 vs. AO, they are 334th in the overall rankings for that category. If Columbia does have a strength offensively, it would have to be the team's outstanding shooting at the charity stripe. The squad makes 75.5% of their free throw attempts, which ranks #42 in Division I.
Columbia doesn't rate much better on defense than they do on offense. Allowing roughly 104 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #279 in the nation in defensive efficiency. Columbia struggles on occasion to deny opponents opportunities to shoot from the floor. The team is ranked 319th in the nation in defensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of 85.64 vs. AO.
Columbia has recently performed below their norm from an efficiency standpoint. The team is currently ranked 326th in the country in positive momentum.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
Columbia is typically better vs. teams that allow more chances at the line. Against foes that have a defensive free throw attempt rate vs. AO greater than 22.98, Columbia performs above their norm 70% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 11% of the time.
When facing teams that are typically efficient on offense, Columbia often performs worse than normal. Columbia is more efficient than usual 29% of the time when facing teams that have an offensive efficiency rating vs. AO greater than 96.44.
