ANALYSIS: Not one of the better ball-clubs in college basketball, UNH should be a fairly easy win for most capable opponents. Carrying a record of 15-15, they are currently rated #271 overall (out of 353) in All-Play Percentage this season. They are also ranked by this site as the #5 team (out of nine) in the America East (average ranking 251.0).
Based on their performances this year, UNH will likely find more success on defense than they will on offense. Allowing about 100 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO, they currently occupy the #174 slot in the ratings for defensive efficiency. UNH is one of the better teams when it comes to not allowing opponents to convert scoring chances off of offensive rebounds. The squad allows AO to convert only 3.7% of all second-chance opportunities (ranked 35th in the NCAA). If UNH does exhibit a noticeable weakness on the defensive end of the floor, it'd likely be the team's unwillingness to take risks in order to score fast points off of the opposition's turnovers. The squad only has a rating of 7.35 in potential points scored off of steals vs. AO, which ranks seventh-worst in the college game.
The offense for UNH, on the other hand, isn't nearly as efficient as the defense is. The team is ranked 313th in offensive efficiency, scoring about 91 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. UNH is among the worst of the worst when it comes to field goal shooting. The team is rated #334 in the country in field goal percentage, making good on a meager 39.4% of their attempts vs. AO. UNH also does an extremely poor job drawing fouls and getting to the free throw line. With a free throw attempt rate of just 20.47 vs. AO, they are 330th in the overall rankings for that category.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
UNH is typically better vs. teams that allow more chances at the line. Against foes that have a defensive free throw attempt rate vs. AO greater than 26.63, UNH performs above their norm 75% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 30% of the time.
When facing teams that shoot the ball well from the field, UNH often performs worse than normal. UNH is more efficient than usual 32% of the time when facing teams that have an offensive field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 40.47%. In their other contests, UNH performs better than the norm 67% of the time.
UNH does worse vs. clubs that find ways to get to the free throw line. When playing squads that have an offensive free throw attempt rate vs. AO greater than 23.10, UNH performs above average 29% of the time. Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 64% of the time.
