ANALYSIS: UNH is a poor basketball team, arguably one of the very worst in all of college hoops. They are ranked #344 (out of 353) in the most recent Haslametrics ratings and have a record of 5-24. They are also ranked by this site as the worst team (out of nine) in the America East (average ranking 247.9).
UNH has one of the most anemic offenses around. They rank third from the bottom in efficiency on that end of the court and score fewer than 84 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. UNH is a lousy shooting team, incapable of converting efficiently from anyplace on the floor and ranking in the bottom-50 in each of our four most noteworthy field goal shooting categories. They make just 31.4% of their three-pointers (ranking 319th nationally), 28.5% of their mid-range attempts (fourth from the bottom), 50.1% of their near-proximity chances (sixth from the bottom), and 35.4% of their total shots from the field (third from the bottom) vs. AO. UNH also does an extremely poor job drawing fouls and getting to the free throw line. With a free throw attempt rate of just 17.42 vs. AO, they are fourth from the bottom in the overall rankings for that category. UNH lastly has had serious struggles making their free throws this year. Converting just 64.0% of their attempts, the squad is ranked #344 overall in free throw percentage.
Even though the team ranks considerably higher in defensive efficiency, UNH isn't a powerhouse on that end of the floor either. Allowing roughly 107 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #238 in the nation in defensive efficiency. UNH is extremely underskilled to force steals that turn into quick and easy points. They're ranked #351 in potential points off of breakaway steals with a rating of only 6.93 vs. AO. UNH also fouls far too much and sends the opposition to the line way too often. With a defensive free throw attempt rate of 31.48 vs. AO, the squad is ranked #339 in the country in that category.
UNH has been playing much better basketball as of late and is presently ranked tenth in positive momentum because of it. UNH is also one of the more consistent teams in Division I (presently ranked 34th in consistency), so forecasting the outcomes of their future contests tends to be easier than the norm.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
UNH performs better against squads that effectively clean the offensive glass. When facing teams that have an offensive second-chance potential point rate vs. AO greater than 12.54, UNH is more efficient than normal 79% of the time. In their other contests, the team is more efficient 23% of the time.
When playing teams that convert more frequently off of offensive rebounds, UNH usually performs better than average. UNH is more efficient than normal 71% of the time when facing clubs that have an offensive second-chance conversion percentage vs. AO greater than 5.19%. In all other contests, UNH performs better than average 20% of the time.
UNH is typically better vs. teams that convert well from the charity stripe. Against foes that have an adjusted free throw percentage vs. AO greater than 69.49%, UNH performs above their norm 67% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 22% of the time.
