ANALYSIS: Boise State has a fairly solid squad that likely falls within the top quartile of all teams in college basketball this year. They are ranked #41 (out of 351) in the most recent Haslametrics ratings and have a record of 25-9. Of the 11 schools in the MWC (average ranking 148.5), they're currently ranked as our #2 team in the conference.
Boise State succeeds primarily through their offense. They are ranked 45th in offensive efficiency and score in excess of 108 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. Boise State allows very few breakaway opportunities for the opposition, which typically translates to fewer turnovers. The team's rating vs. AO for potential breakaway points allowed off of steals is 8.50, which ranks #13 in the country. Boise State will also make a concerted effort to fire off quite a few three-pointers each game. The team ranks 36th in ratio of three-point attempts to total field goal attempts. If you do allow them to shoot from long, they have the ability to punish you for it, too. Ranked in the top-50 in three-point shooting percentage, they make approximately 37.8% of their three-point attempts vs. AO.
Boise State plays at roughly the same level defensively as they do offensively. The team ranks 60th nationally in defensive efficiency, allowing about 94 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Boise State does a fantastic job to prevent opposing teams from capitalizing on chances from offensive rebounds. The squad allows AO to convert only 4.7% of all second-chance opportunities (ranked 14th in the NCAA), and with a rating of 12.64, they're 27th in potential points allowed off of the offensive glass as well. Boise State is also a superior unit when it comes to preventing opponents from getting to the foul line. With a defensive free throw attempt rate of 23.57 vs. AO, they are currently rated 21st in the country in that category.
When playing on the road, Boise State performs somewhat worse than they normally do on their home court. The club is nationally ranked 312th in our site's away-from-home metric.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
Boise State does worse vs. clubs that prefer the outside shot. When playing squads that have an offensive shooting proximity score vs. AO greater than 2.01, Boise State performs above average 18% of the time. Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 67% of the time.
Boise State performs worse against squads that are typically efficient on offense. When facing teams that have an offensive efficiency rating vs. AO greater than 101.33, Boise State is more efficient than normal 27% of the time. In their other contests, the team is more efficient 71% of the time.
When playing teams that do not defend well on the perimeter, Boise State usually performs worse than average. Boise State is more efficient than normal 36% of the time when facing clubs that have a defensive three-point field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 32.71%. In all other contests, Boise State performs better than average 80% of the time.
