ANALYSIS: G. Washington has a squad that most likely falls somewhere in the bottom half of NCAA Division I teams this year. Haslametrics has them ranked 233rd overall (out of 353) in All-Play Percentage, and the team holds a record of 12-20. Of the 14 schools in the A-10 (average ranking 136.6), they're currently ranked as our #12 team in the conference.
G. Washington does not have a terribly exceptional defense this year. Rated at #233 in defensive efficiency, they allow around 102 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. G. Washington allows opponents to make good on a fair number of their overall field goal attempts. The ball-club ranks #275 nationally in field goal percentage allowed, as AO will convert approximately 45.4% of their total attempts from the floor. If G. Washington does have a bright spot on defense, it would have to be their success stopping opponents from earning second-chance opportunities via offensive boards. The team has a rating of 10.51 in potential points allowed off of second chances vs. AO, which ranks 31st-best in college hoops.
G. Washington doesn't rate much better on offense than they do on defense. Scoring roughly 96 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #231 in the nation in offensive efficiency. G. Washington poses no threat whatsoever to grab rebounds off their own misses. Against AO, the ball-club has a rating of 9.47 in potential points scored off of second chances (332nd nationally), and they convert just 3.3% of their second-chance opportunities (ranked 330th) as well. G. Washington also needs improvement when it comes to draining the mid-range shot. The team is ranked 310th in field goal percentage from that distance, making only 33.5% of their mid-range attempts vs. AO.
G. Washington has been playing some of their worst basketball of the season as of late, and they're presently ranked seventh from the bottom in positive momentum because of it. G. Washington is also one of the more consistent teams in Division I (presently ranked 45th in consistency), so forecasting the outcomes of their future contests tends to be easier than the norm.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
G. Washington performs better against squads that prefer the outside shot. When facing teams that have an offensive shooting proximity score vs. AO greater than 2.02, G. Washington is more efficient than normal 72% of the time. In their other contests, the team is more efficient 29% of the time.
When playing teams that allow a higher number of conversions off of the offensive glass, G. Washington usually performs better than average. G. Washington is more efficient than normal 67% of the time when facing clubs that have a defensive second-chance conversion percentage vs. AO greater than 4.42%. In all other contests, G. Washington performs better than average 27% of the time.
G. Washington is typically better vs. teams that allow opponents to shoot well from the field. Against foes that have a defensive field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 44.08%, G. Washington performs above their norm 80% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 41% of the time.
