ANALYSIS: As one of the worst teams in NCAA basketball, Kennesaw State should be a pushover for the average-to-good squads in Division I. Ranked second from the bottom overall (out of 353) in our most recent ratings, they presently have a record of 1-28. They are also ranked by this site as the worst team (out of nine) in the Atlantic Sun (average ranking 250.4).
Kennesaw State has a very tough time coming by points on offense. Scoring about 78 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are woefully ranked #352 in offensive efficiency. Kennesaw State is downright awful shooting the basketball and can't hit from anywhere, shamefully ranking in the bottom-25 in each of the four major field goal shooting categories. They make just 25.1% of their three-pointers (ranking second from the bottom nationally), 31.4% of their mid-range attempts (seventh from the bottom), 47.1% of their near-proximity chances (last), and 35.4% of their total shots from the field (last) vs. AO. Kennesaw State is also one of the more inferior teams in the college game when it comes to maximizing opportunities to score on offense. The team is nationally ranked 327th in offensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of only 77.94 vs. AO.
Kennesaw State doesn't rate much better on defense than they do on offense. Allowing roughly 111 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #340 in the nation in defensive efficiency. Kennesaw State does an extremely poor job to deny the opposition behind the arc. They rank ninth from the bottom nationally in defensive three-point percentage, allowing AO to make 38.1% of their attempts from afar. Kennesaw State is also one of the very worst teams in the country in terms of overall defensive field goal percentage. The ball-club ranks #344 nationally in field goal percentage allowed, as AO will convert approximately 48.5% of their total attempts from the floor. Kennesaw State is lastly extremely underskilled to force steals that turn into quick and easy points. They're ranked #337 in potential points off of breakaway steals with a rating of only 7.76 vs. AO.
Kennesaw State has been one of the most erratic teams in college basketball this year (currently ranked last overall in consistency), which makes the outcomes of their future games far more difficult to predict.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
Kennesaw State does better vs. clubs that convert more frequently off of offensive rebounds. When playing squads that have an offensive second-chance conversion percentage vs. AO greater than 4.41%, Kennesaw State performs above average 86% of the time. Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 20% of the time.
Kennesaw State performs better against squads that effectively clean the offensive glass. When facing teams that have an offensive second-chance potential point rate vs. AO greater than 12.08, Kennesaw State is more efficient than normal 80% of the time. In their other contests, the team is more efficient 37% of the time.
When playing teams that fail to defend efficiently inside the paint, Kennesaw State usually performs better than average. Kennesaw State is more efficient than normal 80% of the time when facing clubs that have a defensive near-proximity field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 60.50%. In all other contests, Kennesaw State performs better than average 37% of the time.
