ANALYSIS: As an average to slightly above-average foe, E. Washington should probably not be discounted by opponents this year. Carrying a record of 21-11, they are currently rated #140 overall (out of 362) in All-Play Percentage this season. Of the 10 schools in the Big Sky (average ranking 227.4), they're currently ranked as the best team in the conference.
E. Washington succeeds primarily through their offense. They are ranked 87th in offensive efficiency and score in excess of 110 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. E. Washington is an excellent shooting team, capable of converting from multiple locations on the court and ranking in the top-50 in three of our four primary field goal categories. They are most proficient from two-point range, making good on 45.0% of their mid-range jumpers (14th in the nation), 63.7% of their near-proximity chances (36th), and 47.8% of their total shots from the field (32nd) vs. AO. E. Washington also does a really good job converting from the free throw line. Making 76.8% of their attempts from the stripe, they are ranked 29th nationally in free throw percentage. Moreover, they get ample opportunity to beat you from the line, as the ball-club falls in the top-75 in free throw attempt rate with a rating of 29.52 vs. AO. If E. Washington does have a glaring weakness offensively, it would have to be the team's difficulties in getting off a sufficient number of shots each possession. The squad has a field goal attempt rate of just 79.36 vs. AO, which ranks worst in college basketball.
Unfortunately, E. Washington is not even remotely close to being as good on defense as they are on offense. The team is ranked 257th in defensive efficiency, allowing about 109 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. E. Washington does a very lackluster job preventing opponents from draining threes. They rank 329th nationally in defensive three-point percentage, allowing AO to make 36.9% of their attempts from afar.
E. Washington has been one of the most erratic teams in college basketball this year (currently ranked 344th overall in consistency), which makes the outcomes of their future games far more difficult to predict.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
When facing teams that tend to get off more shots, E. Washington often performs better than normal. E. Washington is more efficient than usual 57% of the time when facing teams that have an offensive field goal attempt rate vs. AO greater than 83.55. In their other contests, E. Washington performs better than the norm 22% of the time.
