ANALYSIS: They're far from the worst of the worst, but E. Washington should not be a terribly frightening opponent for most clubs. Carrying a record of 18-16, they are currently rated #216 overall (out of 358) in All-Play Percentage this season. Of the 11 schools in the Big Sky (average ranking 254.1), they're currently ranked as our #4 team in the conference.
E. Washington will likely rely on their offense more than anything else to win games. The team is ranked 171st in offensive efficiency and scores more than 100 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. E. Washington will make a concerted effort to fire off quite a few three-pointers each game. The team ranks 28th in ratio of three-point attempts to total field goal attempts. When it comes to actually making their three-point attempts, the squad shoots a so-so 35.0% from beyond the arc vs. AO. E. Washington also converts a fair amount of its free throws. Making 75.4% of their attempts from the stripe, they are ranked 59th nationally in free throw percentage. If E. Washington does have a weakness offensively, it would have to be the team's inability to drain mid-range jumpers. The squad makes just 34.4% of their mid-range field goal attempts vs. AO, which ranks 37th-worst in the nation.
The defense for E. Washington, on the other hand, isn't nearly as efficient as the offense is. The team is ranked 289th in defensive efficiency, allowing about 107 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. E. Washington struggles on occasion to deny opponents opportunities to shoot from the floor. The team is ranked 328th in the nation in defensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of 87.70 vs. AO. E. Washington also can be weak on rebounding, giving the opposition too many chances to score off of the offensive glass. The club has a rating of 15.54 vs. AO in potential points allowed off of second chances (320th nationally).
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
When facing teams that have trouble defending the mid-range shot, E. Washington often performs worse than normal. E. Washington is more efficient than usual 27% of the time when facing teams that have a defensive mid-range field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 38.25%. In their other contests, E. Washington performs better than the norm 70% of the time.
E. Washington does worse vs. clubs that convert more frequently off of offensive rebounds. When playing squads that have an offensive second-chance conversion percentage vs. AO greater than 4.14%, E. Washington performs above average 17% of the time. Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 55% of the time.
