ANALYSIS: Regardless of what the win percentage says, Texas State isn't a very good team this year. Carrying a record of 18-7, they are currently rated #180 overall (out of 357) in All-Play Percentage this season. Of the 12 schools in the Sun Belt (average ranking 234.5), they're currently ranked as our #2 team in the conference.
If there is a strength for Texas State this year, it's probably on the defensive end of the court. While preferring an extremely deliberate pace (the fourth-slowest in D1), the team is rated 129th in defensive efficiency, allowing fewer than 99 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO. Texas State does a really good job to prevent opponents from getting off shots from the field. The club is ranked 41st in Division I in defensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of 78.54 vs. AO. Texas State also does a fairly satisfactory job to deny opponents chances to score off of the offensive glass. They have a rating of 10.77 vs. AO in potential points allowed off of second chances (ranked 54th in the country).
Texas State doesn't perform as well offensively as they do defensively. The team is ranked 223rd in offensive efficiency, scoring about 97 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. Texas State is not one of the better teams at drawing fouls and getting to the free throw line. With a free throw attempt rate of just 22.52 vs. AO, they are 266th in the overall rankings for that category.
Texas State is one of the more consistent teams in Division I (presently ranked 27th in consistency), so forecasting the outcomes of their future contests tends to be easier than the norm.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
