ANALYSIS: Per this website's calculations, Utah Tech is somewhere between an average to slightly above-average D1 ball-club. Carrying a record of 14-19, they are currently rated #158 overall (out of 363) in All-Play Percentage this season. Of the 13 schools in the WAC (average ranking 162.2), they're currently ranked as our #8 team in the conference.
If there is a strength for Utah Tech this year, it's probably on the offensive end of the court. The team is rated 168th in offensive efficiency, scoring more than 102 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. Utah Tech does a super job in their efforts to get to the free throw line. With a free throw attempt rate of 31.26 vs. AO, they are ranked tenth in the nation at getting to the charity stripe, where the team shoots a rather mediocre 70.2%. Utah Tech is also one of the more accurate teams in the college game when it comes to shooting the three. They're ranked 35th nationally in three-point field goal percentage and make about 36.9% of their attempts from there vs. AO. The team will try to shoot a fair amount of threes, too. Roughly 40.6% of their field goal attempts vs. AO are from long, giving the team a top-75 ranking in that category. If Utah Tech does have a glaring weakness offensively, it would have to be the team's difficulties in getting off a sufficient number of shots each possession. The squad has a field goal attempt rate of just 77.24 vs. AO, which ranks second-worst in college basketball.
Utah Tech plays at roughly the same level defensively as they do offensively. The team ranks 170th nationally in defensive efficiency, allowing about 103 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Utah Tech does a super job to deny opponents offensive rebounds and second chances. They have a rating of 11.26 vs. AO in potential points allowed off of second chances (ranked 20th in the country). Utah Tech also does a really good job to prevent opponents from getting off shots from the field. The club is ranked 44th in Division I in defensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of 80.83 vs. AO. If Utah Tech does exhibit a noticeable weakness on the defensive end of the floor, it'd likely be the team's troubles stopping opponents from converting mid-range jumpers. AO will make good on 42.5% of their mid-range field goal attempts, and the squad ranks 20th-worst in that category because of it.
Utah Tech has been playing better basketball in their most recent outings, as evidenced by the team's #48 ranking in positive momentum.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.

When facing teams that allow opponents to shoot well from the field, Utah Tech often performs better than normal. Utah Tech is more efficient than usual 64% of the time when facing teams that have a defensive field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 44.06%. In their other contests, Utah Tech performs better than the norm 25% of the time.
