ANALYSIS: Not one of the better ball-clubs in college basketball, UT Rio Grande should be a fairly easy win for most capable opponents. Ranked 300th overall (out of 351) in our most recent ratings, they presently have a record of 10-22. They are also ranked by this site as the #7 team (out of eight) in the WAC (average ranking 208.0).
UT Rio Grande does not provide much of a challenge on defense. They are ranked at #307 in efficiency on that end of the court and give up about 110 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO. UT Rio Grande fouls far too much and sends the opposition to the line way too often. With a defensive free throw attempt rate of 36.82 vs. AO, the squad is ranked #350 in the country in that category. UT Rio Grande is also one of the very worst teams in the country in terms of overall defensive field goal percentage. The ball-club ranks #333 nationally in field goal percentage allowed, as AO will convert approximately 48.8% of their total attempts from the floor. If UT Rio Grande does have a bright spot on defense, it would have to be their ability to limit the number of shot attempts by the opposition. The team has a defensive field goal attempt rate of 76.66 vs. AO, which ranks 16th-best in college basketball.
UT Rio Grande doesn't rate much better on offense than they do on defense. Scoring roughly 96 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #260 in the nation in offensive efficiency. UT Rio Grande struggles to draw fouls and earn opportunities at the free throw line. With a free throw attempt rate of just 23.73 vs. AO, they are 307th in the overall rankings for that category.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
