West Virginia has been magnificent on the defensive end of the court. The team is rated second in defensive efficiency and allows fewer than 84 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. West Virginia will do a number on many an opponent's shooting percentage, as the team ranks in the top-25 in three of our four major defensive field goal categories. They allow AO to convert only 28.2% of their three-pointers (first in the nation), 51.2% of their near-proximity attempts (13th), and 37.8% of their total shots from the field (seventh). West Virginia also does a fantastic job to prevent opposing teams from capitalizing on chances from offensive rebounds. The squad allows AO to convert only 2.9% of all second-chance opportunities (ranked fourth in the NCAA), and with a rating of 10.40, they're 23rd in potential points allowed off of the offensive glass as well. West Virginia lastly has extremely pesky defenders that ceaselessly attempt to deny opponents ample opportunity to shoot. The club is ranked eighth in Division I in defensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of 74.62 vs. AO.
West Virginia is also a fairly decent team on the offensive end of the court. The team ranks 57th nationally in offensive efficiency, scoring about 106 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. West Virginia does a super job in their efforts to get to the free throw line. With a free throw attempt rate of 34.00 vs. AO, they are ranked second in the nation at getting to the charity stripe. Unfortunately, the team struggles mightily from the line, making only 63.4% of their attempts (19th-worst in the nation). West Virginia also appears to be one of the top-notch offensive rebounding teams you will find this year. Against AO, the squad has a rating of 20.11 in potential points scored off of second chances (ranked sixth in the NCAA), and they convert 6.7% of their second-chance opportunities (ranked 39th) as well. West Virginia is lastly one of the very best when it comes to maximizing field goal opportunities. The team is ranked 18th in the NCAA in offensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of 85.95 vs. AO. As far as making those field goal attempts goes, the team is somewhat middle-of-the-road, converting about 44.2% of them vs. AO. If West Virginia does have a weakness offensively, it would have to be the team's ability (or lack thereof) to sink threes. The squad converts just 30.4% of their three-point attempts vs. AO, which ranks 34th-worst in the nation.
West Virginia has definitely not been as efficient as of late compared to earlier in the season and, consequently, the team is nationally ranked 343rd in positive momentum.
