ANALYSIS:
When you talk about the elite teams in college basketball this year, Wisconsin most definitely is in the conversation. Ranked second overall (out of 351) in our most recent ratings, they presently have a record of 36-4. They are also ranked by this site as the best team (out of 14) in the Big Ten (average ranking 56.1). With a strength-of-schedule rating of 0.778 (which ranks third nationally), Wisconsin is one of the more battle-tested teams in the college game.

Wisconsin showcases one of the country's most efficient offenses. Racking up about 126 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO and promoting an extremely deliberate pace (the fourth-slowest in D1), the team is nationally rated first in efficiency on that end of the floor. Wisconsin is an outstanding shooting team, capable of converting from a variety of locations on the floor and ranking in the top-50 in each of our four most noteworthy field goal categories. Though they're most successful shooting the mid-range jumper (43.8% vs. AO, second in the country), the team also makes 38.2% of their three-pointers (32nd), 69.3% of their near-proximity chances (fifth), and 50.3% of their total shots from the field (fourth) vs. AO. Wisconsin also allows very few breakaway opportunities for the opposition, which typically translates to fewer turnovers. The team's rating vs. AO for potential breakaway points allowed off of steals is 7.88, which ranks #5 in the country. Wisconsin is lastly deadly accurate at the free throw line. Making 77.4% of their attempts from the stripe, they are ranked sixth nationally in free throw percentage. Moreover, they get ample opportunity to beat you from the line, as the ball-club falls in the top-75 in free throw attempt rate with a rating of 31.32 vs. AO.

Wisconsin plays at roughly the same level defensively as they do offensively. The team ranks 19th nationally in defensive efficiency, allowing about 91 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Wisconsin does a super job to deny opponents offensive rebounds and second chances. They have a rating of 10.44 vs. AO in potential points allowed off of second chances (ranked first in the country), and they allow AO to convert just 4.3% of their second-chance opportunities (ranked seventh) as well. Wisconsin is also a superior unit when it comes to preventing opponents from getting to the foul line. With a defensive free throw attempt rate of 19.31 vs. AO, they are currently rated second in the country in that category. Wisconsin lastly does tremendous work shutting down the opposition from the inside. They are ranked 20th in the country in defensive near-proximity percentage, allowing AO to make good on only 52.3% of their attempts from close-up. If Wisconsin does exhibit a noticeable weakness on the defensive end of the floor, it'd likely be the team's unwillingness to take risks in order to score fast points off of the opposition's turnovers. The squad only has a rating of 7.87 in potential points scored off of steals vs. AO, which ranks 14th-worst in the college game.

Wisconsin has been one of the most erratic teams in college basketball this year (currently ranked tenth from the bottom overall in consistency), which makes the outcomes of their future games far more difficult to predict.
SORTABLE SCHEDULE / RESULTS:
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location.
Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
Wisconsin does better vs. clubs that effectively clean the offensive glass. When playing squads that have an offensive second-chance potential point rate vs. AO greater than 16.56, Wisconsin performs above average 83% of the time. Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 39% of the time.
Wisconsin performs worse against squads that are more proficient at draining the mid-range shot. When facing teams that have an offensive mid-range field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 37.61%, Wisconsin is more efficient than normal 32% of the time. In their other contests, the team is more efficient 71% of the time.
