ANALYSIS: Not one of the better ball-clubs in college basketball, Milwaukee should be a fairly easy win for most capable opponents. Their record this season is 10-22, and the club is ranked 330th overall (out of 358) in Haslametrics' most recent ratings. Of the 12 schools in the Horizon League (average ranking 250.7), they're currently ranked as our #10 team in the conference.
Milwaukee has one of the most anemic offenses around. They rank 345th in efficiency on that end of the court and score fewer than 90 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Milwaukee won't enter the conversation if you're looking to list the best three-point shooting teams in the country. They are ranked 330th in three-point field goal percentage nationally and make just 30.6% of their attempts from long vs. AO. Moreover, they find themselves in the bottom-50 in overall offensive field goal percentage, converting just 39.8% of their total attempts vs. AO.
Milwaukee doesn't rate much better on defense than they do on offense. Allowing roughly 107 points for every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO, they are ranked #297 in the nation in defensive efficiency. Milwaukee allows the opposition to get off far too many shots from the floor. The team is ranked sixth from the bottom in the nation in defensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of 89.68 vs. AO. Milwaukee is also extremely underskilled to force steals that turn into quick and easy points. They're ranked #345 in potential points off of breakaway steals with a rating of only 7.29 vs. AO. If Milwaukee does have a bright spot on defense, it would have to be their success stopping opponents from converting from locations near the basket. AO will convert just 52.5% of their near-proximity field goal attempts, and the team ranks 20th-best in the country in that category as a result.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
Milwaukee performs worse against squads that are more proficient at draining the mid-range shot. When facing teams that have an offensive mid-range field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 36.07%, Milwaukee is more efficient than normal 36% of the time. In their other contests, the team is more efficient 89% of the time.
When playing teams that tend to capitalize off breakaway opportunities, Milwaukee usually performs worse than average. Milwaukee is more efficient than normal 32% of the time when facing clubs that have a potential point rate off steals vs. AO greater than 9.84. In all other contests, Milwaukee performs better than average 83% of the time.
Milwaukee is typically better vs. teams that have trouble defending the mid-range shot. Against foes that have a defensive mid-range field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 39.67%, Milwaukee performs above their norm 73% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 31% of the time.
