ANALYSIS: While not an atrocious team by any means, Weber State is not exactly one that should appear in many top-100 rankings either. They have a record of 18-15 and are ranked 211th overall (out of 363) in the latest Haslametrics ratings. They are also ranked by this site as the #4 team (out of 10) in the Big Sky (average ranking 208.8).
Based on their performances this year, Weber State will likely find more success on defense than they will on offense. Allowing about 101 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO, they currently occupy the #139 slot in the ratings for defensive efficiency. Weber State is a solid rebounding team that will deny the opposition chances to score off of offensive rebounds. They have a rating of 11.77 vs. AO in potential points allowed off of second chances (ranked 39th in the country).
The offense for Weber State, on the other hand, isn't nearly as efficient as the defense is. The team is ranked 263rd in offensive efficiency, scoring about 99 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. Weber State happens to be one of the very worst in the game when it comes to maximizing the number of shot attempts they get off from the floor. The team is nationally ranked 339th in offensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of only 80.54 vs. AO. Weber State also does a fairly poor job cleaning the offensive glass. Against AO, the ball-club has a rating of 10.43 in potential points scored off of second chances (337th nationally), and they convert just 3.7% of their second-chance opportunities (ranked 331st) as well. If Weber State does have a strength offensively, it would have to be the team's ability to successfully hit from mid-range locations on the court. The team makes 42.2% of their in-between field goal attempts vs. AO, which ranks 31st in the NCAA.
Weber State has been playing better basketball in their most recent outings, as evidenced by the team's #27 ranking in positive momentum. Weber State has also been one of the most erratic teams in college basketball this year (currently ranked 345th overall in consistency), which makes the outcomes of their future games far more difficult to predict.
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
Weber State performs better against squads that do not defend well on the perimeter. When facing teams that have a defensive three-point field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 35.57%, Weber State is more efficient than normal 91% of the time. In their other contests, the team is more efficient 35% of the time.
When playing teams that allow opponents to shoot well from the field, Weber State usually performs better than average. Weber State is more efficient than normal 89% of the time when facing clubs that have a defensive field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 46.30%. In all other contests, Weber State performs better than average 41% of the time.
Weber State is typically worse vs. teams that are more proficient at draining the mid-range shot. Against foes that have an offensive mid-range field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 40.16%, Weber State performs above their norm 22% of the time. Against the remaining opposition, the team performs above average 68% of the time.
