ANALYSIS: They may not cause sleepless nights for opponents, but Weber State, as a slightly above-average team, cannot be totally ignored. Haslametrics has them ranked 173rd overall (out of 351) in All-Play Percentage, and the team holds a record of 20-14. Of the 12 schools in the Big Sky (average ranking 244.5), they're currently ranked as our #2 team in the conference.
Based on the data, Weber State will likely find more success on offense than on defense. Scoring about 105 points for every 100 possessions vs. AO, they currently occupy the #105 slot in the rankings for offensive efficiency. Weber State is one of the more accurate teams in the college game when it comes to shooting the three. They're ranked 34th nationally in three-point field goal percentage and make about 38.6% of their attempts from there vs. AO. The team will try to shoot a fair amount of threes, too. Roughly 40.3% of their field goal attempts vs. AO are from long, giving the team a top-75 ranking in that category. If Weber State does have a glaring weakness offensively, it would have to be the team's difficulties obtaining second-chance opportunities from offensive rebounds. The squad only has a rating of 9.82 vs. AO in potential points off of second chances, which ranks 13th-worst in college hoops.
Unfortunately, Weber State is not even remotely close to being as good on defense as they are on offense. The team is ranked 261st in defensive efficiency, allowing about 107 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. Weber State allows the opposition to get off far too many shots from the floor. The team is ranked 340th in the nation in defensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of 86.91 vs. AO. Weber State also gives up too many chances to easily score off of offensive rebounds. The team allows AO to convert 8.5% of all second-chance opportunities (317th nationally).
Projections are based on present-day ratings. Stars indicate games played at a neutral location. Game efficiencies only account for data before a contest has gone analytically final and are adjusted to extract home-court advantage.
CURIOUS TRENDS:
When facing teams that allow a higher number of conversions off of the offensive glass, Weber State often performs better than normal. Weber State is more efficient than usual 80% of the time when facing teams that have a defensive second-chance conversion percentage vs. AO greater than 7.55%. In their other contests, Weber State performs better than the norm 32% of the time.
Weber State does better vs. clubs that fail to defend efficiently inside the paint. When playing squads that have a defensive near-proximity field goal percentage vs. AO greater than 63.84%, Weber State performs above average 80% of the time. Against all other opponents, the team performs better than the norm 32% of the time.
Weber State performs better against squads that prefer the outside shot. When facing teams that have an offensive shooting proximity score vs. AO greater than 1.98, Weber State is more efficient than normal 62% of the time. In their other contests, the team is more efficient 18% of the time.
