ANALYSIS:
Virginia is one of the most elite and successful teams in college basketball this year. Carrying a record of 31-3, they are currently rated #3 overall (out of 351) in All-Play Percentage this season. Of the 15 schools in the ACC (average ranking 55.7), they're currently ranked as our #2 team in the conference.

Favoring an extremely deliberate pace (the slowest in D1), Virginia has been magnificent on the defensive end of the court. The team is rated first in defensive efficiency and allows fewer than 84 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Virginia will wreak havoc with many opponents' shooting percentages this year. And it doesn't really matter where the shots originate; the team ranks in the top-25 in each of the four major defensive shooting categories. They allow AO to make just 30.7% of their three-pointers (sixth in the nation), 31.7% of their mid-range shots (eighth), 49.7% of their near-proximity attempts (seventh), and 37.1% of their total shots from the field (second). Virginia also does a fantastic job to prevent opposing teams from capitalizing on chances from offensive rebounds. The squad allows AO to convert only 4.0% of all second-chance opportunities (ranked third in the NCAA), and with a rating of 11.32, they're 11th in potential points allowed off of the offensive glass as well. Virginia is lastly a superior unit when it comes to preventing opponents from getting to the foul line. With a defensive free throw attempt rate of 19.90 vs. AO, they are currently rated sixth in the country in that category.

Virginia plays at about the same level on offense as they do on defense. The team ranks 20th nationally in offensive efficiency, scoring about 114 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Virginia allows very few breakaway opportunities for the opposition, which typically translates to fewer turnovers. The team's rating vs. AO for potential breakaway points allowed off of steals is 6.39, which ranks #1 in the country. Virginia is also one of the very best when it comes to maximizing field goal opportunities. The team is ranked second in the NCAA in offensive field goal attempt rate with a rating of 88.13 vs. AO. And when they do shoot, they make a fair portion of their shots. Ranked in the top-50 in field goal shooting percentage, the squad converts about 47.8% of their total attempts vs. AO. Virginia is lastly one of the most accurate teams when shooting from long-distance. They're ranked 17th nationally in three-point field goal percentage and make about 39.6% of their attempts from there vs. AO. Though they convert many of their threes, the team doesn't really shoot a ton of them. Only 34.6% of their total attempts vs. AO are from long-distance.

Virginia has definitely not been as efficient as of late compared to earlier in the season and, consequently, the team is nationally ranked 336th in positive momentum.
